This is my Go-To Chinese Restaurant in Oakland. Great Food at a good price. Nothing fancy, but it will fill you up. The Vegetable Egg Rolls are some of the best I've ever found.

Food is delicious, serving time is fast.

My rating is 3.5 stars. This Chinese restaurant between Lake Merritt and Uptown and almost hidden but the only one within blocks. I like their food but it's nothing compared to places in Chinatown in Oakland.

Good fresh food at a great price

Got the orange chicken and fried rice, $9. Portion of rice tiny, orange chicken tasted more like sweet n sour sauce than anything else. Absolutely horrid. So bad I have half a mind to go change any of my old two star reviews to three stars so you can really understand the weight of this one star - only given because there is no zero.

I work across the street from here. I went purely out of convenience, I will never do it again. The sliced fish my mother was eating (I met her for lunch) was actually not bad? Or maybe I was hungry? Or trying to please her? (She says it doesn't bother her when I tell her I don't like something but,) Anyhow, I ordered the broccoli beef, how badly could you mess up broccoli beef? Answer? Pretty badly. The brí³coli was actually really delicious and crunchy, the white rice was fluffy and fresh, and the beef used was very tender! But whatever horrible mass produced "broccoli beef/chicken" sauce this restaurant uses needs to GO. Its brown and thick, it's actually started to congeal while I was eating it. I really tried to eat it all, but I threw it away.

5 stars and the reasons are: 1. It's 2 blocks from the Webster tower so that makes it so convenient for me to just walk on over and pick up my orders during lunch. 2. You can order online through yelp or it's Eat24 app. Remember every Thursday, you get the code for 2 bucks off! 3. They're pretty quick. I'll usually order through the app wait about 5 minutes and walk over. By the time I arrive, it's usually ready. Sometimes I've ordered in person and wait. I wait about 10 minutes. 4. I've ordered often enough they know who I am 5. The food is good though I keep it to the same thing. Their Beef pan fried chow mein with potstickers or their dumplings. I know I should explore the menu to give you a better scope but I'm a creature of habit lol. My coworker has had their eggplant and she loves it! Their wonton noodle soup though is average and I wouldn't order that from there.

So sad this place isn't as inviting as I hope it'd be... It definitely has the potential to be a frequently flocked Chinese restaurant, but the vibe I get is try it for the sake of it, or eat when there are no other Chinese food options nearby. They've got ample seating inside, an over the counter selection of food to go (which did not look inviting), and the atmosphere is one of hodge podge. As for me, I tried out an order of their seafood chow mein to go- around $8+. I found it to be too saucy, the seafood it came with were a couple fish filets, some squid sticks, and maybe 3 shrimps. Noodles were okay, but I think I'd rather get to Chinatown and get cheaper noodles there. On the plus side, they accept credit cards so that's handy for if you're cash-less!

I work only a couple blocks away from the restaurant. I have eaten here on several occasions and use this as a central spot for quick meetings, meeting over lunch or just touching base with friends. The location has always been good. It never fails to be consistent with excellent taste, friendly environment and affordable prices. Patronizing this location is not hard. I am so glad that New Lakeside Cafe is right in the middle of good choices for location, ease in preparation, timing, and great taste! Don't forget the prices are quite affordable. Thank you, New Lakeside Cafe! You have a loyal patron and friend for life! :-)

I think this is roughly one of the only Chinese food places around the lake area. Went here with a few coworkers to grab a quick lunch before we go back to our all day meeting! We were able to call in and order beforehand the day before July 3rd. I believe I got the chow-mein noodles. I thought it was just okay - a bit too greasy for my liking. My coworkers thought they were okay as well (I actually forgot what they got but that's because the food was pretty average). They do have an extensive menu however, and it does fulfill your asian food cravings if you're looking for a quick fix. We also got the veggie eggrolls on the side, I actually liked those alot! Prices are pretty decent for lunch and the staff is pretty friendly. There is seating there at the restaurant as well!

I really wish I could give this no stars! This is a review is of the services received by the woman at the counter. She was supremely rude. She almost forced me to get steam rice. Then when I didn't order it, she wanted to charge me more for my 1 item. Crooks!!! To add icing to this disgusting cake, I also got an egg roll and asked for sweet n sour sauce to go with it, she told me it would be $.50 extra...ARE YOU SERIOUS??? And right after I caught you trying to rip me of?!?! I will never patronize this establishment and you shouldn't either. I haven't tasted the food yet, but if it's anything like the service, well you get my drift. I was so excited to try this place out. Highly disappointing
