Visited Oakland for a show and woke up hungry so we scanned numerous breakfast places and their reviews. We decided to walk from Marriott hotel to Oakland Grill and we were happy we did. The food and service was TOP tier!! The staff were so super friendly!

Disappointed by the food and seriously concerned about hygiene and service.

I visited this restaurant with a friend, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish, not only because the food lacked flavor, but because of major hygiene issues and inattentive service.

I ordered the Joe’s omelette, which sounded great on the menu, but arrived poorly prepared. The ground beef looked and tasted like it had been steamed, no browning or flavor and the cheese wasn’t fully melted. The bottom of the omelette was greasy and our potatoes looked seasoned but were completely bland. The reason became clear when I watched a server, the same one who was handling food bare-handed, sprinkle seasoning on the potatoes after they were plated. Nothing was cooked into the food; it was just dusted on top as an afterthought. My friend had the crab cake benedict and described it the same way, bland and forgettable.

We also shared the KFC waffle plate, which was supposed to come with three chicken wings. Instead, it came with two small wing pieces and one large, awkward drumstick, likely a substitute because they had run out of actual wings. The chicken had no flavor, no crisp, nothing memorable, the waffle was the only thing worth eating.

But what really ruined the experience and made me genuinely uncomfortable was the food handling. The same woman who was sprinkling seasoning on plates was also the one cutting toast, plating fruit, and touching all of it with her bare hands. She was walking around taking money, handling cards, menus, and booths then going straight back to touching food. I watched her slice toast with her hands directly on the bread, place food items like fruit onto plates with no gloves, no utensils, no handwashing. She even continuously wiped her hands on her pants before resuming handling food. I cannot believe this is happening in 2025 in a restaurant that serves the public.

We brought it up to someone we thought was the manager, but he said he wasn’t, so we don’t know if the concern was taken seriously. Based on what we saw, this behavior didn’t seem unusual or hidden, it felt like routine.

Also, my friend felt rushed during the ordering process. The waitress seemed impatient, spoke over her, and walked away before she had even fully finished placing her order. That kind of treatment made her feel uncomfortable and unheard.

This place desperately needs proper food safety training and stronger attention to guest experience. The food being bland is one thing, hit-or-miss happens but the hygiene was unacceptable. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it until major changes are made.

It's a cool place because it's on a corner where you can watch all of the produce being sold in the morning and the people are really nice. The food was not very good. I ordered the vegetable Benedict and was disappointed. The potatoes were pre-made and my English muffin was undercooked, but the Hollandaise sauce was legit. Oddly, the tomatoes were thin and flavorless, which was disappointing for a produce district restaurant. Bummer.

Food was horrible (breakfast). Every thing precooked except eggs. Last time for me!! Update: was not charged for my breakfast (surprised) so I will give them another chance for sure!

The restaurant was excellent. Very good service, everyone was very kind, attentive, and quick. They always offered coffee, water, and lemonade with free refills, which was a nice touch. The food was very good and served very quickly. I completely recommend this place. ✅

Service was pretty bad. We had to ask for them to attend us after they seated us..
We ordered the vegan eggs Benedicts, Benedict sauce was very sour, absolutely not like a traditional sauce. Spinach leafs looked not fresh.
We politely asked to swap plate, and they agreed but still billed us the plate.
Despite $4 refill coffee, we had to ask for refills.
The other dish was ok.
