A shame to hear this spot has closed. Over the summer I had an awkward date here with a med student living in the shadow of her more successful twin sisters. We were looking for a sushi spot with outdoor seating at Rikyu was one of the few options. They had this neat private booth parklet, some solid nigiri options, and very nice service. I honestly enjoyed the meal but also think that was the last time I was in Rockridge.

I had a nice time with my family here. We were able to sit outside and there was a heater too. The waitress was very nice and polite. The food wasn't as good as I expected though.

Rather disappointing and bland. Also on the pricey side.

We ordered the seafood udon soup and the appetizer poke salad. I couldn't even finish the poke, the sauce was very unpleasant-tasting, and it was $12.50 for a four-inch-diameter little dish, which seemed very overpriced to me from similar pokes I've ordered other places. The udon was ok, not amazing, have definitely had better. TL;DR: Overpriced and not worth it.

The service was VERY slow but the staff was really nice. The food is so - so at best.

What a wonderful date night. We reserved an outside booth and had an intimate space all to ourselves. It was serendipitous as the ship down the street had live music so we were serenaded as we ate as well. The service was speedy! We told the server that we had evening plans so she brought our food out immediately. The Rikyu Roll was our favorite hands down! The sauce on the plate was a mixture of spicy and savory and the fish was so fresh! This is an incredible sushi restaurant that stands out against a sea of mediocre competitors. We will definitely be back.

Great service , fresh sashimi and sushi rolls. I've been here several times and have always been pleased . They now have an outdoor patio constructed with shade and dividers 6 feet apart from other tables . Pet friendly if you're looking for a nice place to eat while able to bring you puppy dog.

I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh their fish quality was, especially for the price! I'm not really big on rolls (I prefer nigiri) but my favorite item on their menu is the spider roll. The crab is perfectly cooked and the cucumbers inside the roll have a slight sweetness to them that compliments the roll really nicely. I also really enjoy their agedashi tofu. Their nigiri box is decent (and well priced!), but the spider roll was the real star here.

This is my current go to Japanese place in the neighborhood. Portions are large and the quality is great. Always have chicken katsu which is my favorite. California rolls are great. Hubby gets sushi roll set, which was delicious. Fish was fresh and really tasty.

Had the opportunity to eat on site, outdoors, and the food was excellent as usual. Such a pleasure to eat at Rikyu.
