This place is sooooo good. I am not even vegan and I love it. I enjoy that there is just one set served and you just choose one of the two sizes. Whenever I am in the area, I go. Great vibes too, it is Tibetan and I feel the peaceful vibe is in the food too.

I didn't want to drive home in traffic, so luckily I found ShangriLa restaurant nearby. Away from the busy highway, I settled into a refreshing vine-covered patio on a quiet city street, with easy parking. Even though this is a no frills restaurant, I gave it 5 stars for Atmosphere because it feels as though there is an emphasis on serving up serenity & calm with every meal...like being warmly welcomed into someone's humble home. Service is immediate: order inside then sit & food is brought quickly. I ordered an all in one meal with nice portions of 5 different dishes, including a delicious soup for under $20. I love leaving with that satisfied, happy tummy feeling afterwards! 😋 Happy that they're thoughtful enough to have compostable take out boxes for tomorrow's leftovers.
Can't wait to go back & see what's next on their rotating menu. I can always use another order of calm in my life.

Food was a little bland and came out cold. Staff was on their phones the whole time, some kind of talk radio was playing loudly in the kitchen. So underwhelming and disappointing.

The ambiance is threadbare, and it can definitely use a lot of work. But you can tell the food is cooked with love! It feels clean and healthy to eat here.

I recently went to Shangri-La Vegan. It is located in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland & is a short walk from the MacArthur BART station. Dining at an all vegan restaurant as a longtime vegan usually provides too much choice on what to get yet the opposite is true here as there is only one main entree available. The only choice is whether you want a Moderate plate for $11.95 or Full plate for $13.95. Each plate comes w/ a veggie soup. I have a hearty appetite so went w/ the Full plate. After some time my black eye pea veggie soup arrived. It was quite alright. Some time later my Full plate arrived w/ Long Grain Brown Rice, Black Beans w/ onion & garlic, baked yams, kabocha squash, butternut squash, collard greens w/ shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, & onions, & a mixed salad w/ tofu & lemon juice agave dressing. The food is simple & made w/o seasoning. It is all vegan, organic, & macrobiotic. I found my meal healthy, nourishing, & enjoyable. On the table were a few simple condiments that I used to spice up my meal a bit including cayenne & there was also some of the japanese sesame seed condiment gomasio that I used. Besides the main entree there was also some homemade raw pies & baked goods. The atmosphere here is enjoyable as Tibetan prayer flags hang overhead. Great to finally check out Shangri-La as it has been on my radar for some time. I will definitely be back!
This place has beautiful energy and the food feels like medicine. I am fully nourished. Thank you.

So delicious! I got the large dinner and ate every bite. Everything was seasoned perfectly. This place is simple; you choose if you want a medium or large sized meal, and other than that, you’re signing up for whatever tasty combo they’re offering that day.

Shangri-La is a small, local chain and one of the best spots for healthy vegan dining. The menu is simple; you order either a medium or large portion and you'll be given a soup and a plate with several items. Plates always include a simple salad, rice, and three entree items. They can also accommodate salt/seasoning free orders. All the food here is organic, fresh, and prepared with skill and love.
Healthy food and good taste food, I like eat to vegetarian food.
