Loved our food. We got the shewat special which was a sampler of vegan, chicken and beef dishes. We even had to order more red lentils. We loved the lentil sambusa appetizer. We also enjoyed the honey wine, chai tea and tea with araki. Loved that this is a family run and owned restaurant. Will definitely return.

Sooo good! For drinks we got the tea and the chai and both were delicious and unique. The sambusa was so good that I immediately ate them before taking the picture. It’s crunchy, not too oily and pairs well with the sweet and sour sauce that is served with the dish. As a vegetarian I loved having two combo options to choose from! I chose the Simo’s special and my personal favorites were the red lentils and the chickpeas. I usually hate okra but I didn’t mind it at all. My boyfriend got the Shewat Combo. Everything was good but the star of the show was the beef curry which had a hearty flavor.
10/10 Recommend this place!

This is our favorite Eritrean restaurant in the east bay. The food is always fantastic, always fresh and hot and so flavorful. Don’t come here expecting to eat in a hurry and run off. Good food takes preparation.

Shewhat is a "must visit" restaurant featuring 5-Star Eritrean and Ethiopian cuisine! It is hands down the best food from this region you will ever experience, both in terms of taste and nutrition! Highly recommended 👌. It's family run, and they are most charming and welcoming. Great atmosphere!

i've only gotten takeout from here but it has been delicious every time. if you like flavor you just can't go wrong with any choice, i've never been disappointed and i keep getting different samplers because i want to try everything

Hands down my favorite Eritrean restaurant in the Bay Area, my favorite go-to meal every time is the Vegan Sampler, it's consistent flavors and tastes are above others that I've tried. My husband and I recently moved to Hayward but we willingly and excitedly trek up to Abby's restaurant when we are craving her food. Highly recommended!

Ordered the Temtmo Yemisir Watt (red lentils) & Temtmo Alicha Watt (yellow lentils), both mild spicy, with Injera for take-out (for Covid safety reasons), and I loved every bite of it! Super well cooked & spiced, and definitely value for money given the quantity. Appreciate the friendly service, and will definitely be ordering take-out again; thank you to the lovely staff!

Food and service were great. But they had Spotify track on repeat but worst of all, they had commercials!!!! That really bummed me out. Total vibe bust. Recommend paying the Spotify subscription and not having ads. It would make it sooooo much better experience.

Had wonderful birthday dinner here with 11 people. The host/owner was probably then nicest person I’ve ever had the pleasure of being served by. She was incredible.
The mushroom dish was the easy highlight. Ate more than my share.
I’ll definitely be going back whenever im in the bay.
