Absolutely phenomenal service. There was a very large party along with other tables sat and Ashely and Antwon handled it with so much class, even when the kitchen was backed up, and even when they were stretched over too many people. Simply incredible personalities and tact. I would absolutely return just for them alone.

Inventive, delicious food beautifully presented. Defies description since menu pulls from all over the world.

My friend and I went here for Mother's Day brunch on Sunday, food was tasteless! Shrimp and grits....tasted like a canned sauce poured Over it with something called scrambled eggs, my request, but actually fried eggs. The server seemed extremely inexperienced but rather than trying harder he went and sat at the bar and communed with other family members. He never brought out check, and when we finally, after an hour wait approached the cashier to pay at the bar there was a disturbing , petty, childish, staring match with the waiter and his presumed family members at the bar. Ignorant, disappointing, and unfortunately grounded in centuries of internalized racism. Sorry, but I must call as I see it!

Oko for Mother's Day's was horrible food and experience. My food was nasty and extremely overpriced. The shrimp and grits had a nasty sauce with watery grits for $37.00! I had what was called a poor boy sandwich which came on a hotdog bun with 4 shrimp on a coffee cup saucer for $22.00!! What in world are they doing ! I was insulted by a rude waiter when asked about ordering a side. He proceeded to sit at the bar with his friends and stare and gossip about us while we wait40 minutes for our bill! It was like being in a high school cafeteria with mean horrible people. The owner manager was completely useless in addressing our concerns because the rude waiter was her brother and the gossip were her family!!! What kind of unprofessional strange dysfunctional behaviour to bring to a new business. Don't waste your time or money on this business.

Organization was very poor. Waitress was not very attentive. I had message them previously and asked if they have set menu for Sunday. And they said no. But when we arrived we were given only brunch menu.

Horrible service. waited over 30 min for waitress to arrive ,food took another 30 min to arrive . had to ask for the rest of my meal after they brought out two eggs, had to ask for utensils. People next to us left in disgust after waiting over an hour for their food.

I took my wife and son here, for Mother's Day, and made reservations ahead of time. It was a disaster!! We got there at 10:40 a.m., with 11 a.m. reservations. They had the place locked up, and wouldn't let us in to have a drink at the bar. No water was offered either as we waited outside on some benches, that were surrounded by garbage and debris that no one wanted to clean up. When I went to the door to see if we even had the right place (it was deserted), the young lady reluctantly came over and told me we had to wait outside. She was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Unfortunately for us, this same person is the one who was assigned to wait on our table!! She sat us down, then disappeared for 20 minutes. Then, she brought lukewarm water to us, and disappeared for another 20 minutes. She continued to be unfriendly and unhelpful. A FULL HOUR after we sat down, our food had still not arrived, while other patrons who had come in at the same time as us, had ordered their food, eaten it, and were preparing to leave afterwards!! The one thing we got, was an Arnold Palmer that tasted terrible, full of that cheap and fake lemon spray you've heard about, but never want to taste. Other things that happened were equally bad. We got tired of this treatment and were very hungry, so we left the restaurant without eating, and walked to Chinatown for a great meal. (I don't know if our order ever even made it to the kitchen or not. Probably a 50/50 chance.) We want to support black-owned businesses, such as this, but we won't go back to Oko. (The gentleman at the front desk was cool, though.)

I desperately wanted to like this place more than I did. And perhaps that why my too-high expectations just weren't meant. This is a great neighborhood restaurant, but I drove a distance to try it out and it was a good, but not outstanding, spot. I enjoyed the food, but until I looked at the picture I posted, I had forgotten what I ordered. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and service is excellent. But the hype and foodie attention just sold me on something I didn't get. If around Oakland and there's a table available, you'll have a great meal. But if you're looking to plan and have flexibility, there are better options.

Warm hospitality and beautiful and delicious food and cocktails in the Tribune building. Everyone who works there is excited about sharing the food with you. The had a game on with the sound turned way up, so that was a negative for us, but the food and service made up for it. Try the jollof rice in fried plaintain cups and the housemade andouille sausage. Actually, try everything.

Oko at the Tribune is amazing, easily the best new restaurant we've tried in the past year. Delicious, satisfying food with amazing flavors -- the Jollof Na Ndzizi and Jerk Chicken were particularly great, the roasted tomato and black eyed peas were also so tasty. The space was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly -- Antoine was amazing and helpful as we were picking which dishes our four year old would like (turns out: nearly all of them.) Hope this team opens a restaurant in SF someday but we'll be back whenever we're in Oakland!

This was an interesting experience. Staff was friendly, but a little slow considering the number of customers wasn't large...we had a large group of 12-14 people, so I do take that into consideration. They accommodated our group by condensing tables which was much appreciated. We went for happy hour and basically only had 2 rounds of drinks (and a couple of appetizers) when we likely would have had 3 with a quicker rotation. Food was excellent and each item was something I would recommend. Looking forward to going back to try again.

New neighborhood gem! Don't just come here for Happy Hour- check out their fab menu at lunch! The server/mixologist/host tag team were spot on perfect to our group- friendly, informational, encourgaging, and totally commanded their menu. They were the perfect mix of helpful and present, but also tending to other duties and outta site. But for some reason, they were always right there when we needed something- How did they know? Perhaps Oko should be called "Sixth Sense"!?

Service 6/5Food 5/5Ambiance 5/5Amazing vibes and food here. Shoutout to the staff--Chef Mike, Chauncey and Ashley. You can always tell when restaurant staff members have great chemistry because it shows in the service. They really elevated the experience for us. Ordered the pork chop and it was packed with flavor. Will definitely be coming back.
