Native American cuisine turns out to be rather unique and tasty. One of many different types of food available, this has earned its place as one of the most distinct. The menu is simple yet wide-ranging with its selections. The ingredients seem authentic and the portions are heavy. Great, different food and atmosphere. Bison tacos were 🔥.

Best bison stew I ever had.

The United States needs more establishments like this. Indigenous foods elevated to the proper place they deserve.

food is delicious and unique and reasonably priced. I really enjoyed the green mole with wild mushrooms.

staff was nice enough but forgetful or perhaps overwhelmed, our food came out at random times and we had to ask several times about the tea I ordered.

we sat next to a shelf of various native trinkets and art but the rest of the place is more like a cafeteria.

jeez that makes me sound like a snob but really, it feels like this place hasn't discovered its identity quite yet.

This place is special. Such a nice restaurant with some unusual ingredients in the food. Food, service and ambiance are all well above average...exceeded my expectations for sure. Good place to take family and friends, or a first date. Parking is tough but there's always the BART garage.

I heard about Wahpepah's Kitchen about a year ago and that the chef/owner was from my grandmother's tribe the Kickapoo. My daughter and I went and the food brought me back to my childhood. Couldn't wait to try the fried bread. I had the bison taco and my daughter had the mole'. The food was so flavorful and beautifully presented. This is a small restaurant but it seems to be kept busy. It's on obvious favorite of the area. Parking is difficult off the street so your better off parking in the Fruitvale bart parking lot, right next to it, and walking the short distance. There are security guards walking the area so we felt very safe and secure. We are definitely going back. The price for the two of us including 2 non-alcoholic drinks was I believe about $60. I don't recall exactly but it was worth whatever the price was. Didn't have time for dessert. We are definitely going back

Parking: The best parking is the Fruitvale parking lot.

Loved going to Wahpepah's as it was the first time I've gone to a native cuisine restaurant. The vegan options were clearly labeled on the menu and were plentiful as well. I started with the side of multi color potatoes that comes with a chili sauce that was delicious. The pumpkin seed mole with extra blue corn tortillas was the main dish and full of so many delicious earthy flavors. The mole was very thick and rich as well. For the dessert, the blue corn mush was extremely delicious as it wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be but didn't compromise taste. The texture of the dessert was almost like eating grits. It is evident that Chef Crystal is very passionate and committed to serving traditional native dishes using the highest quality ingredients possible. Please support this business as there aren't many like it!

The bison taco was good, can't say I can tell it was bison but the frybread is excellent - like the best version of chalupa bread. Good chili oil too.

Taquitos taste pretty good, and the chokecherry soda is awesome.

Acorn crepes have a unique nice texture that's awesome

Very nice waitress, turns out it's a family business from the front of house to kitchen.

They source from other Natives in the US - Awesome

Enjoyed the food very much. Plenty for a vegetarian and health-conscious person like me. (My friend eats meat and was happy with the food as well.) Loved the decor. The Native American music that could be heard was nice. Parking was a bit challenging but doable on a week day.

Vegetarian options: Loved to the Three Sisters Salad and acorn crepe!

Dietary restrictions: I'm vegetarian and health-conscious.

Recommend a reservation, especially for a larger party. Our party of 6 had to wait an hour and we got there soon after opening. But it was worth the wait! Highly recommend. Very good, and met all of the dietary needs of our group (one vegetarian, one vegan, one gluten free, and meat eaters)

Dietary restrictions: Lots of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options
