Finally made it to this beautiful Native-owned and operated restaurant. The fry bread was amazing, as was the wild rice fritters. The taquitos were good, but as with many others I’ve had, the filling gets lost. Hours are very limited, but well worth the trip to Oakland. The restaurant is steps from the Fruitvale BART station, so easy to get there via public transit. Updated from previous review on 2026-01-25

Distinctive and delicious indigenous cuisine served in a warm, family-style setting. Everybody should try this place, I have never had food like this. Extremely fresh and flavorful.

The staff were kind, but the food wasn't that great. Had the bison steak - was overcooked, tough, and cut into too-large pieces. Came with potatoes (too many) and greens (too few), neither of which were that great/well seasoned. I might give it another try.

I cannot express how much I enjoyed the catered version of this incredibly delicious fare presented by a talented team of staff. I look forward to visiting the brick and mortar location during my travels to try other offerings. The Bison and Salomon was just divine, the wild rice fritter was unexpectedly sweet and the cookies are crisp and rich with delightful chocolate chips. So thankful for this offering from the chef’s.

🥳Vegan options out number the non ones. It was a treat to taste different flavors and dishes. 👍 We tried them all. The only one I had to throw out was the blue corn dessert mush that tasted fermented but in a bad way. 😝 Everything else was SO delicious! Especially for me: the Wild Mushroom Pumpkin Seed Mole. 🧡🧡 We even asked if we could purchase a container. 🙂
I love everything about Wahpepah's Kitchen. The food, service and atmosphere are great but what makes it special and unique are the clear objectives for her work. Don't just go there to eat, go there to learn. Crystal's movement is long overdue for all indigenous people. I only wish it was closer to my home but I always love supporting WK and sharing it with friends whenever I can.

Their desserts are indulgent yet balanced in sweetness.
I been wanting to go here for years but my trips to San Francisco never aligned with their hours. I'm so glad I finally made it! I got the venison skewers for an appetizer and they were 10/10. Do an entree I got the bison steak. Everything was delicious and I really enjoyed the Hugh quality protein. The staff was great and service was fast.

Had the fry bread and mushroom tacos with handmade blue corn tortillas. As a vegetarian I appreciated having several options to choose from and love the spirit of this restaurant.
