I have driven by HomeState enough times to be curious, but never knew what it was. We decided to drop in one morning on a whim, and we were pleasantly surprised. The vibe inside was well done: lots of Texas inspiration without being cliche and the staff was friendly and answered all of our questions. I liked the breakfast tacos a lot. Fair that some might want more, but I enjoy a simple, well done taco. Eggs were just right, the beans were spot on, and the brisket was perfect. The coffee options weren't too crazy, but it's a taco place. Get your coffee next door if you need one that bad.

Nice little place. Pretty good food, really good service. The location is in an old South O' building that was the neighborhood market for if not 50 years, it was close. Nice addition to the neighborhood.
We love the LA spot so we were so excited when we were vacationing in Oceanside and found one within bike riding distance. Ample outdoor seating and delicious food as always. They serve breakfast tacos all day and have slushy margarita/paloma options. Perfect for summer but honestly ANY time.

Sadly, we cannot recommend HomeState for their tacos.
Yes, they offer a corn based shell to make your taco gluten free, but the flavor to portion to price is not justified. The size of the taco is small, our flavor was lacking and bland, and the price was expensive for the previous two misses.
Be warned, the brisket is cooked with beer, so the meat is not GF.
We know there are better local options, for us, we will not go back.

Home State in Oceanside is a fantastic taqueria. Their queso is incredibly addictive, and the tacos are packed with flavor. It's hard to pick a favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of them. Highly recommend for a delicious and satisfying meal on their patio or delivered to you place!
