Hunter Steakhouse - Oceanside

Food was delicious and service was great despite being busy. Drinks were refilled and food was ready in a timely manner.

My wife ordered the twin lobster tails, and I ordered the Hunter-cut 20oz bone-in prime rib. The lobster was good but had a very slight fishy flavor like it wasn't as fresh as it could be. The butter served with the lobster was not fully clarified; it had some foam; my wife wished it was fully clarified. I ordered the prime rib medium-rare, as I like other cuts rare or blue rare, but understand that a prime rib roast is cooked to a minimum near medium-rare before slicing the portions. My prime rib was definitely on the rare side, which was a little disappointing because the meat was not melt-in-your-mouth like a prime rib usually is, it was a little tough, as if the whole roast was not baked long enough. In past experiences, we've ordered smaller prime rib cuts that were very tender. It was full of flavor, though, including the always fantastic au-jous and horseradish sauce. The shrimp cocktail (love the cocktail sauce), salads, and mud pie dessert were spot-on awesome as usual. I very much enjoyed the IPA on draft and could tell that the keg was very fresh, and the CO2 system is functioning properly. The service was top-notch as usual.

We are new to the area and wanted to celebrate our 27th anniversary. We booked a table and it asked if it was for a special occasion. Notified that it was but no mention of it at all while we were there! The food was good and in generous proportions.

Traditional brunch, great flavor. Love the Hunter Benedict. Can't beat the bottomless mimosas!

Went here for a birthday breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. Server was gracious and the food was great.

We have been here several times. It is always a hit and miss with both service and food. Today was a complete miss in service as well as the food. Sad because when its good, we really enjoy it, but when its bad we question to go back. Its a convenient location, but for the price there are much better options. However, we do love there tableside salad.

My husband and I wanted a cute spot for date night. I was craving prime rib, thought this place would be just the ticket. The atmosphere was so cozy, the fireplace was on and the smell of the historic building was amazing. However, that's all the night offered. We ordered the clam chowder that just fell flat no real seasoning. The salad wheel was nothing special. We ordered the standard prime rib, the cut was terrible more fat than meat. Au just tasteless if it wasn't for the horseradish sauce it would have been so boring. I so wanted to love this place. Sincerely, Disappointed

The food and service was excellent. Was there for a birthday and the dessert was also good.

Celia is fabulous! She was attentive and knowledgeable and super nice. She dealt with all our dietary needs for our family. We highly recommend Hunter!

If you enjoy old-school steakhouses, then you are in for a treat. The food was excellent and the service was second to none. I highly recommend this spot if you are in the area. 🔥

We celebrated our anniversary there and it was great. Good waiter, great service and the food was super. Even though they had a large party of 55 people, we got our food on time with no issues. Our waiter was Adrian.

Because I dine here frequently I'm not going to talk about this last visit. Service was excellent though.

Over priced restaurant for average food and service. Our server gave us the impression she was in a hurry and rushing through our meal. When we spend that much money on a meal, we'd like to enjoy our cocktails before getting our food, enjoy our food before being asked about dessert. The entire evening seemed rushed by our server. The filet mignon was good and cooked as requested. The baked potatoes seemed burned, and the vegetables were boring. The carrot cake tasted like spice cake and wasn't as good as we hoped.

What a great value! The food is excellent. We enjoyed the Prime Rib, Salmon, and Filet. The horseradish is great. The restaurant was not overly noisy so we could have a conversation at our table. The location is equidistant for our two families making it a good choice. We will definitely return.
