So. I don’t know HOW people got hot smoked salmon in the reviews on here. We rocked up and were treated like pissed-on garbage. Questions are unwelcome at best. We said we wanted the hot smoked salmon and a side of seaweed salad. Dude opened the fridge and pulled out a piece of salmon in a plastic bag. I said, “wait is it hot? In the reviews it looks like people got to-go containers to eat out of.” He said, “it’s hot. We don’t have containers. Sorry.” We paid and it was a stone cold piece of smoked salmon all wet in a ziplock. No utensils, nada. Dude couldn’t care less if we died right in front of him lol. If you are an out of towner, skip it with a wide birth. Even if the smoker is on, you ain’t getting squat.

Seems to be a gamble going for lunch here, when it's good, it's great, when it's bad, it's porcelain alter time.I suggest checking what they hand you before leaving, if they feel they can slip you the bad, they will. So tourist and newcomers, you've been warned.

One reason I enjoy coming to Ojai is for the smoked salmon. But I am very disappointed from my last visit.
Coming up to the window, I asked if they had run out of salmon (they do sometimes). I was glad to hear some just came of the smoker. I anticipated warm freshly smoked salmon as in the past. But no, when I got back and opened it up for lunch, I got two refrigerated tail pieces.
I called to express my disappointment. I got back that the fish off the grill is too hot. And partial understanding with no thought of wrongdoing. They are within their rights to serve two refrigerated tails, but how much lack in care for the customer is clear.
If you buy, ask for fresh, not refrigerated, and no tail pieces, and if that costs extra?

When going to Ojai, we stop to get fresh seafood at Ideal Seafood. Friendly staff with great customer service. We went with the plan to pick up some oysters and smoked salmon. The friendly gentleman told us that they have challenges in getting oysters over the past 2-3 months. He showed us some very fresh Ahi, red in color and recommended that. We bought a pound of it and look forward to searing some of it tonight and also making sushi. We also picked up some very delicious smoked salmon which we snacked on before our hike and shared with our pooch.If you live far from Ojai, bring a cooler and ice packs to take home. You will be very satisfied!
