“The ambiance is great and the drinks and food are delicious but severely overpriced. They started off doing $5 tacos which is pricey but fine for the quality of the food but quickly hiked up their prices. Considering the quality which im well aware of as I’ve made many of these dishes myself (I’m Mexican) I’m still willing to pay their prices.
That being said, the pricing for some of the simpler items on menu like quesadillas are absurd in my opinion. Small tortillas with cheese and watercress for $7.50 each is just insulting to my heritage. $6.50 for mole, sure, that’s a complicated dish. $7.50 for cheese in a tortilla, no. Please be more judicious in your pricing and menu building.”

“Great place for a light bite on premises at the Ojai Valley Inn. We had the squash blossom pizza (amazing!), pita bread appetizer (very good) and sesame chicken salad (amazing!). Service was good. It was a bit hectic with all of the families but we ended up moving inside, and it was peaceful. Prices are high-ish but not offensive.”

“Beautiful, modern space. Fantastic coffee and breakfast - the sesame pancake with the lemon drizzle is 💣. Lunch options are solid. I only had dinner once, and the schnitzel was crispy and great. I forget which starter I got but it was yummy, if a little (surprisingly!) spicy.

Their cocktail menu is good, and the bartenders are capable and can make anything. I chat sometimes with the head of coffee and the GM, and they're lovely humans running a tight ship. And local, if that matters to you.

It's also a great co-working space during the week when the LA crowds are gone and other spots might be busy. Oh, and their A/C is bomb!”

“First time at Rory’s other place, and wow what a great experience. I loved everything I ordered. The rice bowl with mushrooms was absolutely delicious and a great gluten-free and dairy free option. The pickles and kimchi are both made in house, huge plus! I got the GF and vegan thumbprint cookie, also delicious! Also got an iced hojicha matcha, perfect pick me up for the hot mid-morning. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Seating area was cute and clean. I can’t wait to go back!”

The staff is wonderful and warm (hey Andrew! hey Corey!), and the book wall makes the space warm and inviting (and provides good gift options). Outdoor patio is spacious, though make sure you find an umbrella to escape the heat.

It gets quiet enough to do laptop work mid morning and then after the lunch rush. The Sunday morning farmers market rush is real, so be prepared to wait (or buy tamales from the tamale stand next door).”

“Best Thai food in town. They’re located near several other Asian restaurants, but if you’re looking for authentic, fresh Thai cuisine, this is the place. The portions are generous and the prices are great, which is hard to find these days. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, with plenty of parking right next door. “Took the wife here thinking to share a dish and order small things before the drive back to the OC. Oh we left filled! Located inside the Topa Topa Brewing Company, as soon as you walk in you will see the tap bar, to the left you'll see where you place your order for Little Sama, even more to the left is the food menu.

It was very tempting to try a beer from Topa Topa since it was our first time at both these locations, but also our first time in Ojai, but man the heat destroyed me (when does it not) and I knew the beer would just make me even more hot and bloated too.

We were at the location on a Thursday late afternoon, not too many people, few people coming in and getting either their after work brew or shoot maybe one before their shift starts. It was happy hour for Little Sama which we took advantage with one of the dishes which I will discuss in a bit. Plenty of seating inside and outside, as well as two unisex bathrooms, to the right side of the bar.

The girl working was very helpful on giving us good recommendations which we went with:

Okonomiyaki Tots (Happy Hour Item) - Now most places when they have happy hour and these items are on there, its usually like half the portion or something, they gave us a lot, so I am curious what does the non-happy hour order look like. One thing for sure is I am super glad they gave us this much because these were bomb and dangerous. The tater tots were fried perfectly that it held its crunch even with the Okonomi Sauce and kewpie mayo. I usually don't care for pickled cabbage but that perfectly balanced the whole dish that I found myself poking the cabbage and spinning it like spaghetti, then making sure it stays in place by capping it with two tots. Damn delish!

Korean Fried Cauliflower - This is to this date, the best fried cauliflower dish I have had, actually lets expand that to the best cauliflower dish I have had. Again perfectly fried where you had a little bit of a crunch but still had the nice pillow-whe feel of the cauliflower. That sauce though! It was so damn good I obviously finished the dish, but at the end my fat boy habits came out and I scraped the whole plate so all the sauce would combine again so I could use the last of the two cauliflower and drench em down! Can I get this some how over here to the OC PLEASE!

Top Sirloin Katsu Sando - I don't know how they did this not only were they keeping the crisp of the sandwich along with the katsu, they didn't clash to where it was just to crunchy, they blended so well together. That miso garlic cabbage slaw just really put everything together into just a umami explosion in the mouth. The Krupuk chips were delicious, I was going to knock a star off my review because either they weren't fried all the way or maybe that could just be the chip themselves, but do check your chips, sometimes in the center is a very hard part while surrounding it is the regular chip like texture. The wife bit into it and the shock of not expecting that hard texture, irritated that side of the jaw for a bit.

In conclusion as mentioned above I started off with a 4 star review because of the chip, but that was the only thing. I just think putting out that delicious food, having one of those dishes being the best I have had, it deserved a 5 star from me. Imagine enjoying the beer which without a doubt would have some that pair nicely with each dish! This restaurant will be one of those ones that will make it hard to try anything else in Ojai. Why? Being our first time in Ojai, it is hard to say when is the next time we will return, but when we do, why would I try any other place out when I can finally try this place again!”

“Great little coffee place just behind the main street in Ojai. Coffee is fantastic. Nice bold strong taste. And they also have all kinds of non-dairy organic options for milk.

Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a quieter place to grab a delicious cup of coffee.”

“A must-visit for foodies! (5/5 Green Stars) I really liked the kombucha flight experience here. The place was relaxing haven on a rainy day, with friendly staff, board games to try and magazines to read. The Pink Moment was a favorite – it’s made from green tea, raw honey, ginger, hibiscus, orange zest and the jun culture. Technically, the culture is known as “jun” rather than a kombucha “SCOBY”. Kombucha is usually made by fermenting black tea and refined sugar while jun is made from green tea and raw honey. I learned something new today – two things, actaully! The other is that SCOBY stands for “symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast.” Anyway, even without strong flavors added (for example, the Om, which had just a little blackberry and lavender) Revel’s kombucha (jun!) tastes amazing. Perhaps even more enjoyable was the vegan charcuterie plate – vegan cheese and salami with crackers, olives and apricots. The vegan cheese was from Conscious Cultures in NY and the salami was from Renegade Foods. Honesty, I’ve never had better vegan cheese, and I’ve tried quite a few. There were two pretty sizeable chunks of cheese, in the styles of brie and blue, and each did really taste like the dairy equivalent. Another microbiology side-note: both brie and blue cheeses get a lot of their flavor from the Penicillium fungi that they are inoculated with, rather than the milk itself. So congrats to Conscious Cultures for figuring that out, and thanks to Revel for introducing them to me! I hope that charcuterie plate is still available as I don’t see it on the current webpage. I’m giving Revel Kombucha 5/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, for these reasons: • The kombucha is made from organic green tea and organic honey and various additions such as organic ginger, blackberry, orange zest, etc., depending on the flavor. • Besides being almost always organic, many ingredients are local too – like the oranges, of course! • The food on offer was great – the vegan charcuterie board introduced us to new products like amazing brie and blue cheeses from Conscious Cultures. • I appreciate that they let me purchase a liter of kombucha by refilling my Sigg flask. They also provide re-useable glass bottles for buying kombucha to-go.”

“Roasters is my go to place to work from in Ojai. The atmosphere is so cozy, the owner and baristas so incredibly welcoming to all, the lattes and food delicious! It’s a special place to me .. my late husband actually became friends with Stacey first, he was from Tanzania and they bonded over coffee growing and roasting that he was interested in from his native country. Because of their friendship, he would often bring me gifts (mugs, pastries..) from her and it became our go to place for a coffee date. He would always buy the coffee cake which he might have HALF a bite of but he knew I would eat it all if he got it but that I wouldn’t l order it myself :) I have many happy memories here with him, and since he passed I am creating more. It’s such a safe and cozy place to read or work or chat with other patrons. Love this place!”

They were out of all sorts of food and beer, this really miffed the young ladies behind the counter who were then charged with telling every customer that. We grabbed the food pretty quick, all three orders were outstanding. The Jalapeño Bacon Smash burger was something I will be back for.

“Came here for an early dinner as part of a girls day out last minute. A hidden gem! The food and drinks were great, service was also great, but that might be because we were the only ones in the whole restaurant. I hope they can drum up more business, especially on a Saturday night. The interior ambience and decor needs a refresh and the hostess podium outside needs to be manned. The menu needs an update as well, this place has a lot of potential just needs to be marketed better. We would come again next time we're in town.”

“The team made me and my girlfriend's anniversary feel very special with an excellent view and quality of service, shoutout to our server Kate. We had the fried chicken bites and ahi tuna crudo to start. Fried chicken bites were tasty but some parts were mostly breading. However, the sauce and seasoning were on point. The crudo was very light and carried by the pickled onions and avocado sauce and made for a great starter before getting into heavier dishes. There was a special on the New York strip so we opted for that as well as a side of mac and cheese and broccolini. The broccolini had a lovely char to it and the lemon on the side adds a necessary zest. The mac and cheese was truly the star of the show with a generous portion and deep flavor in the sauce. The New York strip was delicious as well with the compound butter adding extra flavor and richness to the cut. Overall, The Oak is lovely for a lovely date that doesn't have the, at times, stale atmosphere of fine dining restaurants, but provides food, service, and views that are close to that level.”
