“Is this Ojai's best kept secret?! As I was walking my weekend route around Libbey Park, I ventured off and slipped into this local joint. At first glance it appears to be a high-end liquor store with thousands of bottles laid out nicely. Towards the back of the place I discovered a terrific bar/restaurant! To start, the ambiance of the place was very mellow and quiet, once you step in the back it's like being cut off from the retail portion and it was a surprisingly open space. It's almost the perfect combination for lunch time. The service was very helpful all around, from the man in the front who had liquor recommendations, to the staff in the back who assisted me in ordering a sandwich that is on my top 10 list! Now on to the food! I did not know what I was expecting but it is almost as if they took the best qualities of the counties American style cuisine and put them in their meals. I had the Cubano, the strawberry habanero wings, and the fiery choke which is their take on fried artichokes. For someone who eats vegetables like a 5 year old, I could get behind this. The seasoning alone took me aback, it was spicy but not too much with a hint of sweetness, but pairing it with their aioli was fantastic. The wings were unique but lacked a little bit of crispiness, definitely was not as spicy as I thought, yet had an overly sweet and tangy taste. Finally, the piece de resistance, the Cuban which made my top 10 list. It is not very common to taste every individual flavor in a sandwich but this one hit the every note. The braised pork was so tender and melted in your mouth which added a bit of tanginess to the honey cured ham sitting right underneath. Added with roasted garlic & Swiss, it enhanced the savoriness of the sandwich Also beer lovers, they have a lot of great beers on tap and in the cold box :) I will be coming back for more! (keep in mind parking is limited so take a walk and enjoy Ojai)“

“Stopped in for a few slices and this Jersey Boy was highly impressed with the pizza... Big size / great taste / and interesting variety (Mira Monte). Throw in that there are "day old slices" wrapped to go.. Flashback to my childhood having a cold slice the next morning. Highly highly recommend the pizza!!!!!! “

“I am not a vegan, but my wife ordered us some of the tortas and they were insanely delicious (and filling)! Also, the fries were absolutely top notch. If I could eat like this all the time, vegetarianism/veganism would be way more appealing to me!“

“I love all the flavors, but I can't get enough of the hazelnut gelato - it's so dreamy. And my kids love hanging out on the patio with their favorite flavors in bright colored cones, playing the games available. Definitely check it out because I dream of that gelato all the time!“

“Spent the afternoon up in Ojai, and my friend suggested we try Yume. We ordered at a counter, was greeted and any questions we had were answered. Thought about one of their burgers but they looked too big to fit in my mouth so I opted for a bowl. I had the Wagyu Loco Moco bowl and my friend had the Wagyu BBQ bowl. It was nice so we opted to sit in the back patio area. Food came in a reasonable time. We both really liked our meals, the miso and edamame were great sides. Need to go back and try other items in the menu. Owner and other workers checked on us to see how things were and we told them the food was great, and we definitely need to go back.“

“Excellent staff, excellent food, and excellent ambiance. Really can't go wrong with this spot. They gave us great recommendations for our first visit to Ojai and to this restaurant. We got the chips with guacamole and salsa, peach iced tea, huarache, and the tamale. Everything was great portion size and the food tasted so fresh and filling. We also got the peanut butter and oatmeal cookies, both were good but a very coconut taste (which I'm not a fan of but if you are then these are your cookies!!). Definitely would return on my next visit to Ojai.“

“The Ojai Valley Deli Cafe is an amazing place to eat and even more incredible as a caterer. We eat there frequently, take out just as often, and recently hired them to cater a house concert and our 70+ guest raved about the food. They are SO professional in every way! They really care and it shows in their execution and in the quality of every dish they serve. I could not recommend them more highly!“

“I actually met Sam, the owner of the place!!! Normally, the Sams I've met, suck. I'm specifically referring to Uncle Sam. He's coming for my money and dignity! But that's another story... I went here for a drink and to hear the live music. I tried the "A league of its own," which included house infused apricot vodka, apricot, and lemon." Delicious. They also service food, which I didn't try, but they serve a vegetarian chili. I mean, I had Sam repeat that it was vegetarian twice just to understand. A vegetarian chili. When I come back, I'll try it! Great place! Fun atmosphere! Delicious drinks! Kitchen open until approximately 10pm and bar open until about 11pm. And live music every sat night! You will not be disappointed!!!“

“This is a sweet restaurant with a compelling story of the owner's journey from Tibet to America. And the food is delicious! We were a little skeptical walking up but are so glad we came in. We had boiled chicken dumplings and they were flavorful and juicy and had the goodness of being homemade. We also had the chicken tikka masala and it was tasty and perfect with onions and potatoes over rice. Warming and hit the spot on a grey and chilly day.“

“Before visiting Ojai, I was searching what to do in Ojai. This pizza company has many great reviews and decided it would it a place to stop by and have lunch. Overall experience from our server was amazing. She was attentive and friendly. She frequently checked up on us to see if there was anything we might need - A+! We ordered the Buffalo Hawaiian Pizza (Buffalo ranch, red onion, seasoned chicken, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, Canadian bacon, bacon, and pineapple) medium size. It was enough for the both of us plus had a couple of slices left over. The restaurant itself was pleasant and relaxing place to be at. They also have a bar area.“

“Original Post (12/28/23): I went there in the fall. A friend drove me from Santa Barbara to Ojai specifically to go to Cafe Boku to try their vegan Reuben sandwiches. I really like vegan Reubens and was hoping to try theirs. We arrived a few minutes after 3 - and although their web site stated that they were open until 5, the cashier told us that the kitchen closed at 3! We had to go to Hip instead, which I really did not want to do. They will get a chance to redeem themselves today, as I am once again going to try to eat at the restaurant. However, this time I called ahead - and although the message on their answering system stated that they were open until 5 - I chose to speak directly to someone there, and once again was told that they will close at 3. This time we will get there before 3, and I hope to be able to update this review with a more favorable.one. UPDATE (1/8/24): We returned on Thursday, 12/28/23. I was hoping to be able to state that their phone message and web site reflected their current hours. However, as of last night the phone message still claims that they are open until 5 - which is incorrect, the sign in their door shows a closing time of 3 for all open days. The web site shows 3 for most days, and 4 for a few. I would strongly suggest calling and talking to a person before going. This time we got to try their food. We both ordered the mushroom Reuben. It was a very good mushroom sandwich, but did not taste very much like a Reuben. My friend and I also both wished that the sandwiches had more filling (mushrooms and sauerkraut). The bread was sour dough - not pumpernickel - but it was a very good sourdough. I would order it again, but I would like to try other items on their menu. Unfortunately, the items that I am most interested in trying (the flat bread and the soup) are currently not available. The service was excellent - and we were even comped a part of our to go order to help make up for the disastrous first visit. We were also told that they are now completely vegan - so I can give them more than 3 stars. Updated from previous review on 2024-01-08“

“My family and I went recently for the first and, suffice to stay, we will be coming back.Food was flavorful and portions were great! I ordered the spicy dan dan noodles and they were delicious! The spice level was just right to still be able to enjoy the dish. The portion was great too because I was able to finish all of it and feel satisfied (whereas I usually take home leftovers when eating out at other places). I also ordered takoyaki and it was also delicious! The inside was creamy and I wish I had ordered more for my family and me.The staff was also inviting, kind, and responsive. The restaurant also offers various Asian snacks to purchase. I got a bag of shrimp chips and Ramune-flavored chewy candies and our server gave us the candies on the house!I also enjoyed the restaurant atmosphere with windows lining the walls to invite lots of sunlight into the restaurant.“

“What a lovely restaurant, I was a bit skeptical since it's a small town but loved that there are a ton of options for everyone. My friends and I were in town for a getaway and wanted a cute dinner and it was definitely accomplished here. The staff was so nice as well. We ordered a few things, I can't remember all of the names but the ravioli, chicken lasagna and the baked penne pasta was sooo delicious our plates were licked clean. We did order a pepperoni pizza but being from LA I've had better, but it was good. And for dessert, we got the tiramisu, crème brûlée and peach sorbet. The peach sorbet is very potent but if you like the flavor you will enjoy. Will definitely be back to visit!“

“It's like a good place for 1st date the eating areas ate inside or patio and even one table for 2 out by side walk , it doesn't have waiters no free refill on soft drinks or no complimentary bread rolls, I had spaghetti and meat balls it was ok kinda like from the can, my son had chicken Alfredo he enjoyed it he sed the chicken portion in his plate was generous and good.. it's diffrent mostly good atmosphere and alot of beautiful trees and old places to see in the Ojai valley“
“Cuteeee place! Honestly, the Dole whip sign had me at the door. They serve you the yogurt here so don't expect self-service like other yogurt joints. They don't have any seating inside but they have 3 tables outside with a couple chairs to eat and people watch as they walk by. You can also opt to walk around and eat while you're shopping the outdoor shops. We obviously got the Dole whip flavor with mochi topping and I thought it was delicious on a warm Saturday. Super creamy and the Dole whip got me reminiscing about Disneyland. I loved being able to just sit outside and people watch as well. I'll be back next time I'm in town.“

“We had dinner last night at this charming restaurant in downtown Ojai. Our meals were excellent. I had the halibut that was perfectly cooked and it was accompanied by roasted potatoes and a vegetable medley of broccoli and kale. Delicious and beautifully presented. My friend had the Ciopinno and she thoroughly enjoyed it. It came out piping hot and was loaded with seafood. The toasted bread served was wonderful to sop up the broth - which she loved. I would highly suggest this restaurant and we will definitely return when we are back in Ojai. Oh and the service was excellent as well.“

“Ive been here a lot, absolutely adore this place, some changes have been made but it's mostly for the better. Best order in my opinion is Kiri Gai no potatoes with bamboo chutes and combination fried rice, best of all worlds. One small negative is if you eat there and want to be in the booths, good-luck sliding into the tables. Overall very good food and very nice people.“

“Ken is rather professional bartender, a little aloof in contrast to the engaged and friendly locals, they have most any spirit you might want, a small assortment of beers and the compulsory short food menu - kitchen closes a bit earlier than the bar - I recommend the garlic fries!“

“Great food! Very good food and good variety. Busy at lunch time. A group of us went for lunch and ordered a variety of food. Our orders were made very quickly. Takes a while to become oriented to the placement of condiments, utensils and such. Great time was had by all of us. Would certainly recommend!“

“The best thing about Bonnie Lu's is Bonnie Lu - or someone who could have been her - she was kind of all over the place greeting people, serving up coffee, etc. She was effervescent. Our servers were also attentive and great.I felt like our meals were only okay. I had Dennis's Country Combo. The gravy on my biscuits and gravy was barely warm and the biscuit was doughy, tho the hash browns were hot and very crunchy, just the way I like them. My companion's eggs were cooked incorrectly which, if you're a breakfast place, I feel you should get right every single time.“

“They could only sell tater tots and they would still be the best place! Their menu is smaller but has just about anything to fit your craving. Everything has great seasoning and seems to have a gourmet flavor to it, despite being in a brewery. Again, the tots are a must! They have two great serving options for them, either a side, or you can get just tots! Since it's in the brewery, the ambiance is 10/10. Great spot to pick something up while People watching and drinking great beers!“

“I've lived in Ojai for over 50 years, been eating sushi for at least 40 years- not sure how long Sakura has been open but I've never tried it since my favorite sushi restaurant is I Love Sushi in Ventura. Needed my sushi fix, didn't feel like driving to Ventura so thought I'd give Sakura a chance. It was still early on a Sunday evening and my wife and I were seated right away, the waitress took our food and drink orders shortly after and the food came after just a short wait. The salmon sashimi was cheaper than other sushi restaurants although you only get 5 pieces. The price per ounce is probably about comparable to other places. The pieces were a healthy size - they tasted fresh and delicious. The yellowtail sushi was also of good quality. We also ordered 3 rolls - the red dragon was good although the shrimp tempura inside the roll was not as noticeable as it should be. The albacore miso roll was also good but be careful - my wife and I are used to spicy food but this was on the high end of the spicy scale. Another roll with tuna inside and scallops on top was pretty bland and the cold scallops offered little help. All the rolls were presented nicely and all were healthy as in full of ingredients- not skimpy at all. As with just about any restaurant it takes a few visits to discover what your favorites are. All prices were within range of most local sushi restaurants so no surprises there. One downside- with a concrete floor and hard ceiling as the restaurant became more crowded it became almost unbearably noisy. I would definitely try it again although my wife said she knows what she likes and it happens to be at I Love Sushi in Ventura.“

“Deer lodge is a must visit. The best part is the ambiance. Off the beaten path, it is a cozy lodge feel that allows for some relaxation and fun. Both indoor and outdoor seating is great. The bbq and tri tip nachos are the best items on the menu with everything else being pretty good. The service has been good the few times I have been there. Stick to the bbq on the menu and go for some relaxation, music, and beers. Very charming“

“It's hard to believe that I haven't reviewed this place yet especially since I make trips to Ojai just to dine here! I love their vegetarian lasagna, but let's be real, I make the trek out here for their famous Strawberry shortcake! During most of the year you can grab a table outside and enjoy the scenic views. A must visit when in Ojai.“

“This place is the best mexican restaurant in Ojai. The food portion was really big and good. The service was amazing. “The restaurant is clean and the outdoor patio is dog friendly. Relaxing music plays in the background so you don't have to yell to speak with your friends. The food was fresh, colorful, and delicious and served efficiently! The fish tacos had a good amount of mild fish and the blue corn sopes popped with the flavors of corn, beans, avocado, and pickled onion. Definitely give this place a try next time you're looking for a bite in Ojai.“

“This place alone is worth the drive from LA to Ojai.A gorgeous eatery in the middle of downtown Ojai, The Dutchess welcomes you with open arms to its beautifully lit and meticulously decorated atmosphere. THE FOOD (I'm just going to jump to it) IS INCREDIBLE. The naan was to die for; the mussels were divine; The Pork Belly noodles had to have been my favorite... I mean, the glaze was impeccable; can't go wrong with the curry; but the Goat Masala IS A MUST. Oh- and don't pass up on dessert. The Lime Pie was incredible, but you HAVE to get the Brulee Pie and the Sticky Rice Donuts. You'll thank me later.“
