Magic Hour Ceremonial Teas & Gifts

We were in Ojai for my best friend’s bachelorette weekend and we made a tea time reservation at Magic Hour through Resy. The tea time includes tea and a platter of little sandwiches and pastries. When filling out our party information, I added gluten free for my own dietary restriction and shared the reservation with my friend so she could add vegan for her dietary restriction. We had two more girls in the party who had no dietary restrictions. When the waitress came by, I confirmed that I am gluten free and that my friend sitting across from me is vegan. When they brought out the food, it was all gluten free and all vegan. Soon after, we realized and told the waitress that two of the girls wanted the regular option and had not selected the vegan or gluten free options. After a lot of back and forth with the chef, she ultimately said there was nothing she could do. We asked how much it would cost to order an extra tea time service platter and she informed us that it would be an additional $110 (which is the price for 2 more complete experiences). We requested to order it even with the exorbitant price. She left to inform the chef. After about 10 minutes, she came back and for some reason went over the prices item by item again.

Her: “Ok, so just to confirm, the tea service is $55 each per person.”
Us: “Yes, we know”
Her: “And adding the extra platter is an additional $110.”
Us: “Yes, you told us already.”
Her: “So the total plus gratuity comes out to around $400. Is that price ok for you?”
Us: “Yes it is.”
Her: “Ok so you wouldn’t mind paying now, would you?”

First, they bring the wrong food and do not correct the mistake. Second, they question if we have the ability to pay. Third, they make us pay halfway through the meal. Like we were going to dine and dash. We paid as requested and were polite throughout the whole experience. But at the end of it, we were left feeling shocked and disrespected.

It was an unfortunate event that left a bad note on an otherwise lovely weekend in Ojai celebrating my best friend getting married. Despite the good teas and beautiful shop, I cannot recommend this place. I will not be returning.

Magic Hour has some of the best tea blends I’ve ever had! Their bottles and packaging is gorgeous! A few of my favorites are 5555, Hibiscus Holiday, Lemon Meringue Puehr, and Blueberry Cheesecake Oolong! There are so many unique and wonderful flavors to chose from! I’m currently absolutely loving the Angel line of herbal teas!

What a cool place!! So many delicious tea blends and cool tea accessories. Zhena, Founder & Master Blender was so generous and helpful. Her vast knowledge of teas and their various uses is truly impressive. They have a nice cafe with great tea service and snacks.

I am an avid tea drinker and I really enjoy this shop and the team that works there. They are incredibly responsive and quick about it. My first order was a gift and they were quick to respond about a gift message after I ordered. Another time I ordered for myself and the very next day they had a giveaway. At first I wasn’t sure I would be able to get the freebie even though I had placed a qualifying order and it hadn’t shipped yet because I had done it the day before. They must’ve already packaged my order (told you they were quick). But after consideration, they decided to honor it and even shipped the freebie separately at no cost to me. They have made a lifelong customer. Their tea is quality and the blends are unique and interesting. I love the little ceremonies and special ways to brew and mix the teas they offer and share. Plus these violet jars are just gorgeous to display. A treat for all senses and fantastic customer service. Never change.

Magic hour tea is the best tea I have ever had! Their tea is not only delicious but it is healthy and you can find whatever your body and mind needs. You can also feel the love they put in their tea, the information they give, their packaging, their customer service. It is an incredible communi-tea!

We went on a lunch date, starting at Magic Hour, and what a terrific experience. The tea bar in the back is on point. The atmosphere is sophisticated, gorgeous, and the tea selection is beyond anything else. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough. We’re going to book it for our ten year anniversary.

The tea is amazing and delicious, and the customer service is phenomenal! Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys quality loose leaf tea!

Beautiful design and the teas are full of flavor and with the stories/education that accompanies each tea it’s a self care experience I look forward to. The blends are thoughtful and with the great service and fast shipping, I’ve found a gold mine! 🎁

good ambience and teas but the customer service is another story… try and be nicer to people purchasing from your establishment… edit after your response: i did not order teas. i walked into your establishment in a group and when we were not met with any one after 3 minutes, we rang the bell. after which the woman working proceeded to come out and i ordered my tea, trying to be polite. when my friend (who was not on my tab) didn’t know her order yet, the worker proceeded to ask, “why we rang the bell if we weren’t ready” mind you, i had just ordered. ive been to this establishment prior and had brushed off the cold behavior as a “bad day” but clearly its a pattern.

I've enjoyed almost all of the teas I've tried from when this was Zhena's Gypsy Tea to now as Magic Hour. I'm so excited that they moved locations and have so much more space now for afternoon tea and hanging out. I'm looking forward to trying the afternoon tea!

The shop still has a lot of interesting and pricey items if you're interested in the stuff other than tea. It also is still very beautiful inside.

I have now replaced all teas offered in my Massage and Skin Care Clinic with Magic Hour teas. I am totally addicted to the Bohemian Breakfast Tea to start my day with no more afternoon crashes! I travel with it in my suit case anywhere I go. This is high quality product without question. The Queen of the Tropics Tea is a client favorite in the high heat summer of Florida. Can't say enough!
