One of my favorite spots for a low-priced (but delicious) omakase. It includes soup, salad, a handroll, and a of course a good amount of nigiri. Great value and good quality pieces. Husband and I both ordered the omakase, I ordered an additional order of Sea Bream, and two cokes. Came out to around $110 before tip.
Excellent quality sushi with attentive and friendly waitstaff. We came in right when they opened for dinner so they were still preparing certain items, but everything tasted great when it arrived, plus we were offered free edamame for the wait! Would highly recommend for both the food and service!
While visiting with a friend, she showed me this place and I can see why it's her favorite! We went right after they opened for dinner service, and the unagi was particularly fresh. Through no fault of their own, their card reader was malfunctioning and so there was a brief delay getting our check, during which we were provided with free edamame and offered drinks on the house. We mentioned off-handedly that we were doing an early celebration for my 30th birthday, and they surprised us with a complimentary scoop of green tea ice cream with a birthday candle in it, which was a very sweet touch. The customer service we received from the two young men who waited our table was excellent and we left feeling impressed despite the technical issues. I plan to visit next time I'm in town!
Great value lunch time omakase for 42 dollars!

Kaigen is easily one of my favorite sushi spots in Southern California, a true hidden gem that delivers quality without the need for hype. The restaurant has a warm, inviting feel—like a small, family-run spot where the focus is solely on serving incredible sushi.
The $75, 20-piece Omakase was a standout experience. Each piece was unique, with different cuts of fish presented beautifully, lightly dressed with just the right touch of sauce or wasabi. The variety was impressive, ranging from rich and buttery slices to leaner cuts with a clean, fresh bite. The scallops, in particular, were a highlight—delicate and slightly dusted with black pepper for a subtle contrast.
The service was equally exceptional. Our waitress was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. The young manager also made an impression, showing a clear passion for running the restaurant with confidence and care.
Kaigen delivers an omakase experience that feels personal and thoughtfully crafted. If you’re looking for quality sushi that speaks for itself, this is the place to go.
We’ve been coming here for years! The sushi is the best you’ll get in Orange County. The quality is incredible. It is our favorite such I restaurant. Chris is the most incredible sushi chef. The servers are so attentive and kind. 1000/10 recommend.
This is a hidden gem. The food is excellent. Highly recommend for sushi and sashimi. The fish selection is great. I got the sushi omakase it comes with miso soup and a salad. The chef selection was perfect. Too bad they don't serve yakitori during lunch. Will definitely come back when I'm back in the area and craving for japanese food.
Such a cute little find! The lunch service was great and they were very helpful in recommending options. There are several choices straight from Japan (check the daily board); we had the Nigiri sushi (yellow tail, yellow fin, cherry salmon, sea bass, black cod & horse mackerel) with the yellow fin & black cod as our favorites. We also ordered the baked salmon roll and ruby roll, all were delicious.
Chef is great! Price is amazing I got on delicious omakase for $42 with miso soup and special home made sauce salad

Truly a gem, I daresay this is one of my favorite sushi restaurants of all time! Ordered the sashimi omakase, ichiban roll, and crunchy dragon, and all of them were amazing. Didn’t even get to take photos of the rolls because I was too engrossed in eating the amazing sashimi! It comes with 20 pieces, with only 1 of the cuts (I believe it was the sea bream) being par, with the others all being incredibly fresh and tasty. Decor and atmosphere is very simple, nothing much to speak of. Servers were very attentive and efficient. Definitely coming back!

Omakase, great value. Got to try a variety of fish otherwise would not have. Sushi n sashimi were fresh, tender n melt-in-ur-mouth. Sushi omakase had 9 single sushi including torro. Sashimi omakase had same fish as sushi omakase, 9 servings, 3 pieces/serving. As always, sitting at the bar is the best way to enjoy the omakase experience as the chef will timely serve each dish. Enjoys the journey...

True hidden gem!!! 9 pieces of really high quality and fresh nigiri + a hand roll for this price in SoCal in 2024? But importantly it tastes better than $100+ ones in SF and many of the places I’ve had in Japan.
The cherry salmon was phenomenal, among the best nigiris I've had. The torched sea bass also really blew our minds.
Hand rolls really good too, the Crunch Roll was made with a freshly fried tempura!
Speed of service very fast, not much unnecessary downtime between pieces. Christian at the sushi bar is amazing.
