We enjoyed a delicious dinner to celebrate my brother's birthday. The Far Western never fails to provide an exceptional dining experience.
They brought the wrong steak for my son's meal. They tried to pass off a round steak for a filet. And they wouldn't admit it or apologize. The halibut was overcooked and my mom's filet was medium rare and not medium. Our server was excellent and did his best. This is my third experience where they've brought the wrong protein with the meals my group ordered. I thought I'd give them another chance, but I will never go there again. Highly recommend the Hitching Post. However, they did comp all the food, so even though the manager did not apologize for the mistake, she obviously knew it was wrong or she wouldn't have comp'd the food.
Reservations for two at 5:15 pm, seated at 5:15 pm in very pleasant surroundings. The restaurant was already near full in both the bar and dining areas. Hostess was happy and friendly as were all the wait staff. Emanual or "Manny", our server for the evening, attended to every wish even though he was very busy with the other guests also. Through all the courses of dinner every plate showed care in preparation and excellent taste. Ordering the double-cut pork chop, prepared to medium well, rewarded us with delicious taste and generous proportion. Paired with an excellent locally produced Zinfandel wine rounded out a wonderful evening of great food, happy service, and pleasant surroundings. Our recent visit to The Far Western Tavern in Orcutt, CA is the reason we very highly recommend it for an excellent dining experience. Ernest L. Bevilacqua
Far Western Tavern has such a great vibe inside, warm, stylish interiors that really set the mood. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We were pleasantly surprised that the shrimp cocktail, salad, steaks, pinto beans, and garlic bread all came included for one price - such a great value. On top of that, they have an excellent wine selection to pair with everything. Highly recommend!
It smelled like bathroom deodorizer had to wait a really long time for food it came out cold!
My sirloin steak, medium rare, was perfectly cooked and one of the best steaks I ever had! Manny, our waiter, and Andrea, the best bartender in North County, made it extra special.
Overall experience was good. Only item if you can say anything to the restaurant is the extremely strong smell of sanitizing solution when you walk in the front door. Distracts from the ambiance of the restaurant 😞
Aside from the melt in your mouth filet, you can't help but notice how attentive the wait staff are. They are constantly scanning the dining room to fill glasses or bread baskets and ask if everything's ok. If you want a perfect steak, you won't go wrong dining here!
The food was delicious, the drinks were awesome, and the service was great. Overall, Farwestern was perfect!
Outstanding Staff! Very Quick and clean. Food was amazing and in big portions. Went for Father's Day and we all had a great time, would love to come back again!

Unfortunately, couldn't find our receipt to let me know who waited on us. She was a blonde with medium length hair and I've seen her before. She was very good. She checked on us numerous times. I always have two old fashions and the filet mignon. This time I actually had some leftovers. My husband had the ribeye cowboy steak. He has quite a bit left over. We love all the choices you get. Unfortunately, I'm always too full to get dessert. One of these days I hope to.
I have been coming to the Far Western with my family since the 1980's, when it was located in Guadalupe, where it was founded in the 1950's. I believe the newer location and staff have done a great job sustaining the Far Western's legacy, as a great locally owned steak house.
Food is predictable and not very well seasoned for a ranch style steak house. Service was friendly but slow, taking 15 to 45 minutes between courses. Menu was not described so it took us a while to figure out how to order. Dessert was not offered until we asked. Drinks were offered even before we were comfortably seated. It took over 3 hours for 2 people to get through dinner. Server disappeared for lengthy periods and we had to ask the bus personnel for service.
Excellent Santa Maria Style BBQ fare. Bar is lively, but not loud. Drinks are good and the food is fresh and well made.
The service was amazing, LOTS of food, They would've had five out of five on the food also but my halibut was a little bit overcooked not a lot but a little bit! It was a little dry.
