Ordered a two tier cake a month in advance. I originally emailed asking if the design could be completed in fondant. Was emailed back yes for $295. When I went in person and was informed if the cake were to be done in fondant it’d be double the price. First red flag, but proceeded with the order. We agreed on changing the top tier color to black and the bottom tier white as I originally wanted the opposite of the colors, but she explained too much black icing wouldn’t be idle due to staining/peoples mouths being black due to the dye. When I arrived to pick, I realized the design was changed completely. I was very clear I only wanted the colors changed on the tiers as I had informed her during that day I went in to place the order that she could have textured frosting for the bottom tier in white and have the words across that texture. Instead the books were on the bottom tier and the words ‘go beach’ were on the top tier. I was very dissatisfied with the design of the cake, let alone the design was sloppy. I informed the lady at pick up and she stated the owner was out of town and would contact me later. I took it upon myself to email her to inform her of my dissatisfaction. When the owner emailed with her response, she basically stated the cake is what I wanted and that she was dealing with shaking hands. Not to be blunt, but if you know you can’t execute a design you are charging a high end price for, you could one, don’t take on the job or two don’t charge that price. That’s when she decided to refund me $55. So I paid a total of $240 for a 10” carrot cake and 8” chocolate cake with rasberry filling. Her pricing for those cakes individually are $45 for an 8” carrot cake(yes I did order a 10” so I’d assume it would be $55-$60 for a 10” alone) and $50 for a chocolate raspberry 8” cake. So, a total of $110 for those two cakes together. Due to the design she up-charged $185 originally but with the $55 refund it was $130 for the up charge making the total $240(the official original price she charged me for the cake to begin with was $295). Overall I still feel the price was too high considering the cake design was not what I wanted and the design itself was badly done. I feel refunding half the amount would have been appropriate(instead of $55) because at that point I should have just ordered the two cake flavors as they sell them with no design as the design for the cake I ordered wasn’t satisfactory in any way. I’m only giving a two star as the flavors were good, but I don’t recommend doing a design with her for an important event as she really didn’t display any care in the importance of a special cake and not meeting the bare minimum in the design for a special event.
