In the dense but not oversaturated market for Mexican food in California, it can truly be hard to go wrong. Yet, somehow, time and time again, I end up at Chipotle. Is this how our tastes shall reduce when boiled in the piping hot sea of mass market demand? A review for a gloomier day.
Oxnard, however, has so many local joints that you couldn’t help but feel like a real nowhere man walking into a Del Taco. You could probably walk into the first spot you see and have a good time. But if you wanna try something truly special, this is the place. Average prices with standout food specialties. The vibe is standard for an affordable taqueria, with a notably high-effort bathroom. Wouldn't want anything different.
When the man taking my order learned that it was my first visit, the dude offered me samples. That already earns at least three stars. Both the beef and goat birria tasted great off of a fork, and I was excited and curious to try them in their natural habitat. I ordered three Quesabirria Tacos, the obvious star of the menu. I loaded up on salsa variations (which turned out to be unnecessary), and waited impatiently.
The tacos are fantastic. A greasy, heavy fried tortilla filled with melted cheese and the incredible finely tuned birria. Bigger and heavier than your average street tacos, I ended up taking one home for leftovers. Of course, it was still great. They come with broth, an admittedly decadent salty and fatty dipping choice that aided me in taking a healthy year off of my life.
The whole experience was filling and satisfying. And I didn’t lose a dollar to any evil corporation besides The Coca-Cola Company. As far as I know.

Came to this place thinking it would taste like your average birrieria spot. (Americanized) and let me tell you i was glad i was wrong! This Birria is legit!!! Their birria is full of flavor, their consome is delicious!!! Hands down the best birria I have had at a restaurant… I never really eat birria out, unless its my mothers. Let me tell you, this birria had me debating if my moms was better than theirs or not, and thats A LOT to say! You wont be disappointed. I had their birria sopes and my husband had their birria tacos. We’ll definitely be back!
