Da Hickory House BBQ - Oxnard

I really wanted to like this place, hoping for a good BBQ spot in the area, but I was sorely disappointed. I had pork ribs and tri-tip. Both items were over done and very dry. The ribs were edible, but tri-tip was not. My slices of tri-tip were so dry and tough, I could not eat them.

The only thing that went well is when I asked about allergens over the phone. I have some allergies, and they were able to quickly tell me what was safe and what wasn't.

I do not recommend this place at all. If you want good BBQ, go to "It's In The Sauce" or Wood Ranch.

Da Hickory House was da ultimate letdown. For it was my birthday and I was craving good BBQ. We researched the area and figured there’s 3 locations and reasonably good reviews, let’s give it a shot. Ooops. Yeah, major mistake. Now, to be fair, their staff was super friendly, helpful, exhibiting all the right things that one should do when behind the counter at a restaurant. That’s what keeps DHH at a 1 star. Now the food… Yikes! The garlic bread was not garlicky enough. The potato salad was nothing to write home about or anything I’d want to take back to my home either. The pasta salad? An oddity. The beans were floating in opaque watery substance that I used like a French Dip au jus for the bread, just to “drain the swamp”to get to the beans. It’s too kind to call them bean soup. Bean goop. Moving on.. And the ribs? Seemingly good enough. Kinda sorta, but in retrospect I question the integrity of the meat. There was a chocoflan for dessert, which was flan drained of the yummy flan liquid slapped on a brownie the taste of old cardboard. The cheesecake? Not bad. Not great. Ever since the entire eating of DHH, my digestive system has been queasy and uneasy. This experience did not ruin my birthday, but it was the low point. It was also the bottom of any BBQ experience I’ve had. Ever. Da Hickory House won’t be earning my business again. Truly, ewwww…

Very good tri-tip. I just wish they could stop using styrofoam as their to-go boxes. I won't be returning until they do.

Sadly our first and only time we will come here. Because my nephew has been dying to eat here. Spent 20+$ and went home to find out there was NO BBQ sauce in his order, one usually has to go to a fast food get such service. So if you enjoy eating BBQ with...no BBQ sauce. I give you " DA( aka Dumb A$$) house of BBQ..who charges$$ but forgets the Sauce...? My nephew who works in a grocery store says his sandwich dept. Could do better.

The food is delicious but the service wasn't good. They forgot an order and they don't refund you, they credit you if you decide to come back.soif you didn't like it oh well sucks for you

Gotten nachos with tritip. Meat was nice, tasty and not chewy. Very big portions of nachos and jalapeños, but the cheese is your average nacho cheese you can get out of the grocery store. Would be nice if served with a side of pico or sour cream option. $9.75 were other places charge 15 for nachos is not bad so it get a 4 star for value.

Twice in a row I’ve come in and the same person helped me and both times he’s had an attitude just greeting customers and was on his phone then walked up to me to say he would be back when I placed an order just to pick it up he seemed annoyed said would take five minutes took 15 minutes total

The food is kinda awful. The chicken and tri-tip are very bland and dry. Sauce is required to make them edible. The Chile beans are also bland. Would not reccomend eating here at all.

This place surprised me. Based of the reviews I read on here I wasn't expecting very much. This is the best place in town for Ribs! Beef Ribs and Baby Back Ribs are Bomb even without the sauce! The Brisket is just ok. Do yourself a favor and get the ribs. Delicious!
