We just found this amazing eatery in Oxnard by chance. OMG, it was so good! I have been cursed with the capsaicin sensitivity gene, so I can't tolerate the"heat" 🥵 that many other ethnicities can handle in their customary cuisine... dang European ancestry 🫠😆, but I do enjoy things to have seasoning and not taste like cardboard. My husband loves the hot stuff and got it on the side. Too often I end up not being able to eat the food from most taquerias, even after explaining my issues, but not the case here, everything was awesome. The beans are flavorful, soft, & not hard nor mushy. The rice is cooked perfectly, so it was fluffy with a soft mouth feel without being mushy and not a single undercooked grain to break any teeth, as I find all too often. The herbs & veggies are very fresh. They also used red onions instead of white, which also added flavor without the heat that I was so grateful for. The plentiful asada was cooked fresh for your order, no heat lamp nuggets or brown bits here, and tasted great! We happened to just drop in for lunch, had a wonderful conversation with the staff and other customers, and totally enjoyed our excellent meal. They specialize in Ceviche, having won 1st place at the Ceviche Chow Down the last two years, '24 & '25, that's held yearly at the Olivas Adobe. The event raises funds for Mission FISH, a non-profit dedicated to providing fishing therapy trips for Veterans, Active Duty Military, First Responders, and Gold Star Families. Proceeds this year were to support “Operation Anacapa 2025,” Mission FISH’s 10th annual fishing trip that gives over 100 heroes a day of Fishing, Interacting, Sharing & Healing. Great people and excellent food! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

The camarones cabrones were amazing—spicy, salty and delicious. Be prepared for messy fingers after you peel your shrimp. I would definitely eat this again. My husband’s birria was also flavorful and delicious. This is an authentic place.

We arrived with an Aguachiles craving. We ordered their quesabirria tacos, shrimp tacos and the aguachiles mix plate. Everything was presented so beautifully and it tasted so refreshing for a hot day. I’d definitely recommend this place, they have large Aguachiles platters too! Their aguas frescas are yummy.

Eva was so kind and the owner came to our table to ask how we liked our meal. The music was good-people we're dancing in their seats 😆 I had the ceviche, it was a large portion and was delicious! A must try when in Oxnard!
We tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago and it was delicious. We got the aguachile mix plate and it was perfect. Super fresh shrimp, fish, veggies and home made chips. We also tried the Camarones cabrones, those are a must every time we go now. Went back today and had the ceviche, was just as good as the aguachiles or maybe better. Their guacamole is really good too. If you like mariscos this is definitely the place to go to. We found our new favorite mariscos place 🍻

From the service to the food even the owner Julian was very welcoming and humble. We definitely will be stopping by when in town again.

It has been two years since I posted my review of our experience at Julian's, and now having been back countless times (last night being the latest), I am moved to write again to encourage everyone to try the delicious food and warm welcome and service from Julian and his staff. We took our friends from Vancouver, B.C who visit us 3-4 times a year and a visit is not complete without a lunch or dinner at Julian's. Upon arriving, you're greeted by the most delicious, freshly-made and still warm tortilla chips, along with their sensational salsa. The meals have been consistently wonderful, especially the Camarones Cabrones, 20 perfectly cooked shrimps in a spicy sauce with caramelized onions, the Tacos Gobernador, their first-prize winning Ceviche, their Chicken Taquitos, and of course, the outstanding aguachiles. The portions are very generous and can easily be shared by those at the table. These dishes are so good that we rarely venture into other choices on their extensive menu, but looking around at other tables, we see lots of satisfied customers eating other dishes, like fajitas and burritos. The prices are reasonable and Julian and the staff go out of their way to accommodate their guests, with excellent service, kindness, and sincere appreciation for having chosen to eat there. There is no shortage of Mexican restaurants in Oxnard, but for us, the great food and attention to fresh ingredients and creative recipes set Julian's apart as our favorite place when we want Mexican cuisine. Julian's also does a great take-out business and catering for parties.
