The lighting was incredible bright and then they had a table light as well. My fish was over cooked and skin was dried out. Our Brussels sprouts were delicious and the market salad refreshing . I enjoyed my lavender drip cocktail but when my husband order an ice tea it came in the smallest glass that the server had the bring two at a time. The server was very attentive. Overall the evening was ok. We won't come back to try new things.
Ox & Ocean is definitely one of my favorite places to eat. I've never been disappointed by the food. It does tend to get a little noisy but the food makes any other short comings seem insignificant. I'll continue to go back and continue to recommend them to my friends and family.
The service was non existent. I had to ask the host staff several times to bring me drinks and clear the table. Then, the service charge of 20% was included. I contested the service charge, since there was no service. Food for the presentation was highly expensive. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
The only problem we saw is that we ordered sparkling water, they served us club soda from the gun. They added lime. We had to get a second one because one of the servers put still water on top of our club soda. We each ordered a cup of decaf coffee with dessert course. The cost seemed a bit higher this year. Our bill was over 360 for two of us. The food cost of CO2 water from the gun is less than 10 cents per glass, so I guess we paid several dollars each for the lime? This is the third year in a row we have gone to OX&Ocean for Thanksgiving. Next year we will stay in Ojai and go to the Ojai Valley Inn. They comp soft drinks, including soda water and coffee.
The hotel is very beautiful and we eat here often. Unfortunately there's just always something a miss, whether it's management or staffing I'm not sure. Our waiter was very nice but after waiting over 30 minutes finally had to ask him to take our order. Also we order 2 pork chops and one was cooked perfectly while the other was almost raw. Once cooked correctly they were both delicious and I highly recommend. We also wish they would change up the dessert menu. It's very limited and unfortunately what they do offer is not very good.
Good food for a hotel based dining experience but nothing particularly unique or special. Great for a conference dinner.
We came for brunch with a group of 5. Sat outside and had a great time. Food was good and it was a nice setting in the outdoor area of the hotel with guests walking by, nice landscaping, etc. Very friendly service. Took a little walk down to the beach after we ate. Overall a nice way to have brunch! Would love to come again for lunch or dinner and sit inside as it looked really nice as well.
We had a wonderful night with friends and family at Ox & Ocean! Our server was on point, and the paella was packed with seafood and absolutely delicious. With its close proximity to the beach, the whole experience was truly memorable. Highly recommend!
We are locals and love this beautiful spot near the beach for drinks & food. We came here for a brunch birthday. Service was great! Prompt, friendly - they even sent over a birthday treat for us. The cocktail drinks were great. Two got the Avocado Toasts which they both described the bread as disgusting & the avocado mash as old. For $18 it was a bit shameful. Two of us got the Benedict - it was good! The corn cakes were a bit undercooked/mooshy but besides that was a pretty flavorful dish that hit the spot for both of us. Corn cakes could have been a bit larger. Feedback was the breakfast smashed potatoes tasted old, like they had been made the previous day and fried-up or something. The Iced tea was lower quality kind - definitely from the fountain/Nestea not fresh brewed which we didn't like. That felt like corner cutting! Please brew fresh black iced tea (: For the 4 of us for brunch + 3 cocktails was over $200. The food was definitely not worth the price tag - gosh I wish it was! We don't mind spending on quality. Lovely service tho, ambiance by the beach excellent, patio outside is great w/shade, the hotel is stunning - we love that.
Stayed at the hotel so decided to try the restaurant. Not great. Weird fusion of food that did not taste great. Service was good. Didn't go back during our stay

Very nice spot in Oxnard. Service was friendly and the kitchen was very quick. The waitress was busy and we had to wait a bit, but we were still out in time to make our next stop. We had the beets to start. It was very good. I had the mussels. The sauce was delicious. It had some heat to it and was a similar to tom kha soup. The mussels themselves did not have much meat in them. My husband had the vegetarian pappardelle. It was pretty bland and needed some salt. Our cocktails were good and we will be back.
We sat outside which was very nice. They had live music which was a very nice surprise. The one musician had a fantastic voice and had a excellent music selection. Our server was attentive and prompt. I had the Halibut which was not horrible but not great. The sauce with the lentils was too soupy of my taste. My husband had the pork chop which was just okay. Not horrible but not the best. We had the brussel sprouts as an appetizer and they were fantastic. I highly recommend them. They were all cooked to perfection. No hard ones in the huge portion. I gave this restaurant a higher rating than I normally would for the food because of the ambience.
The food was extraordinary in taste and didn't seem to be prepared fresh, especially the Caesar salad. The lettuce was stale and almost without any taste. Then the main dish came, which was the Mussels. Hmm! I have had mussels probably two dozen times in restaurants and made them at home or in a campground a dozen times. I have never had worse foul-smelling mussels in my life. Well, it's fair to say that desert is not their strong suit either. They serve milkshakes, but I'm not sure why.
We had a wonderful experience at Ox and Ocean. The food was fantastic and served in a reasonable amount of time. Aga was a fantastic waitress who helped us navigate all of the menu items and gave us wonderful recommendations. We will be back!
I’ll admit I was a little concerned at first when I saw the menu was somewhat abbreviated — I wasn’t sure if I’d find something I really liked. I decided to go with the garlic Caesar salad with added chicken, and oh my god, it did not disappoint.
The chicken was clearly prepared just for my salad — not something leftover from earlier in the day. It was fresh, tender, flavorful, and definitely not dry. The salad itself was slightly overdressed, but that actually worked for me since I love bold garlic and parmesan flavors. Altogether, the dish was delicious and well-balanced.
The service was laid-back, which matched the beachside vibe, but I did notice one drawback: no one offered a refill on drinks. That small detail is the only reason I’m docking one star, because a drink top-up would have made the experience perfect.
The atmosphere, though, was beautiful — right by the beach in Oxnard. I never even knew this place existed, but now that I do, I’d say it’s definitely worth the trip if you’re in the area.
