I was really looking forward to checking out The 1901 in Oxnard — I’ve heard good things and was excited to finally try it out. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the place was completely closed. The plaza was deserted, and there was no sign of life at the restaurant.

What’s more confusing is that Yelp (and other sites) still listed them as open. I’m not sure if they’ve recently shut down or if it was just a one-off closure, but it was definitely disappointing to make the trip and find it dark and empty.

If they are out of business, I hope the owners are doing well — but if not, I’d recommend calling ahead just in case.

Next time I will look on Google instead of just Yelp

The service and food at 1901 was outstanding! The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure my fiancé and I had a great experience. The owner and chef Steve was kind enough to come out and chat with all his guests, he also was kind enough to prepare a special Crème brûlée for my fiancé and I. Our server Vicky was fantastic, the house manager Allison was spectacular and outgoing. She recommended the Tri-Tip which was delicious. If you are looking for a wonderful fine dining restaurant with great food and service I recommend the 1901. I will definitely be back.

Stumbled upon this unique restaurant on Google. It did not disappoint. Stroganoff and Chx Alfredo were large portions and very good! Will definitely go again.

Had a great experience at The 1901! I ordered the Blackened Salmon, and it was delicious - nicely seasoned and cooked just right. The mashed potatoes were super buttery and creamy, and the sautéed veggies were perfectly done.

After dinner, I checked out the basement bar, which had a cool prohibition-era vibe. There's a big mural on the wall that tells the history of the house, which was a nice touch. The restaurant is set in one of several Victorian homes that were moved to this area, so it's pretty unique to see modern businesses in these old, preserved buildings. Definitely worth a visit for both the food and the atmosphere!

We went to the 1901 to celebrate a special occasion, and it was the perfect place! All the staff is super friendly and attentive both in the Speakeasy downstairs and the restaurant upstairs.
We ordered the spinach salad as a starter to split and it was a generous sharing size, perfectly dressed and so delicious. The dinners were also generously portioned and amazing. Pretty presentation, fresh quality ingredients, and perfectly seasoned...yummy! Creme Brule for dessert was one of the best I have had with real vanilla caviar in the custard.
We finished the evening listening to live music in the speakeasy. We will definitely dine here again. Perfect place to go especially if you like a calmer ambiance where you can actually have a conversation or sit back and chill and enjoy the company of friends. Definitely worth every penny.

Great setting, delicious food, reasonable prices! Took my wife here for her birthday. We absolutely loved it. Food is top notch. It seemed the chef must have trained under someone notable. The wine was outstanding. It's a cool atmosphere. And the prices were quite reasonable considering the quality. Oh and the portions were generous. All around a fantastic dining experience. Definitely worth a shot. We'll definitely go back next time we're in Oxnard.

When I first arrived, I was a bit confused. Let me explain: the downstairs area is a beautiful speakeasy, and somehow we ended up there initially, even though we had reservations for the restaurant upstairs. We only realized this after asking the bartender. It turns out you actually pass through the speakeasy to reach the restaurant. Once we made it upstairs, we were impressed—the restaurant was spotless, and the staff were fantastic. The food we ordered was phenomenal! From the duck to the lasagna, everything was absolutely delicious, and the portions were generous enough to have leftovers for the next day's dinner. I highly recommend this place! If I’m ever in the area again, I'll definitely be back!

Friendly security & staff, nice comfortable seating, fireplace, lighting, and interior decoration. Drinks were fairly priced. The location was well lit, and the parking was ideal as well.

Nice little “underground” speakeasy tucked away in a nicely preserved historical center. Stopped in for an adult beverage and ordered a smoked old fashioned. Tasty, not sweet, black cherry included, and very happy!
