I was really looking forward to checking out The 1901 in Oxnard — I’ve heard good things and was excited to finally try it out. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the place was completely closed. The plaza was deserted, and there was no sign of life at the restaurant.

What’s more confusing is that Yelp (and other sites) still listed them as open. I’m not sure if they’ve recently shut down or if it was just a one-off closure, but it was definitely disappointing...
The service and food at 1901 was outstanding! The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure my fiancé and I had a great experience. The owner and chef Steve was kind enough to come out and chat with all his guests, he also was kind enough to prepare a special Crème brûlée for my fiancé and I. Had a great experience at The 1901! I ordered the Blackened Salmon, and it was delicious - nicely seasoned and cooked just right. The mashed potatoes were super buttery and creamy, and the sautéed veggies were perfectly done.

After dinner, I checked out the basement bar, which had a cool prohibition-era vibe. There's a big mural on the wall that tells the history of the house, which was a nice touch. The restaurant is set in one of several Victorian homes...
