Woah! I’ve lived in PG for 8 years and have been saying this place needs a munchie spot. Best chicken sandwich hands down! Skin on boneless chicken thigh sandwich, like what? The crunch is perfection, tender dark meat, super flavorful. Now for the heat level. I went with the medium spice. The menu says it’s still pretty spicy and no lie was told. It was SPICY! The kind of spicy you can’t stop eating. Crinkle fries were seasoned perfectly and the dipping sauce was delicious. I’m not even mad that they’re only open on Sundays. Gives me something to look forward to at the end of the week! I was eyeing the breakfast burrito which sounded so good. See ya next Sunday!

Been meaning to try Heatwaves for awhile, but since they’re only open on Sundays, it’s been a struggle. But while the struggle was real, so was this sandwich! I’ve been to dozens of hot chicken sandwich shops and always want to try more. This one did not let me down.

The chicken on the sandwich was enormous. There were two pieces of chicken, one piece was so large it stuck out of the side of the sandwich like the tongue or a cow. I ate that part first and found it to be the crispiest chicken sandwich i have ever had, and that isn’t a complaint. It wasn’t burnt or overcooked, but this snap, crackled, and popped like that cereal we hated seeing our moms being home from the grocery store(you know you added copious amounts of sugar to that cereal!)

I used to always get the hottest version of the sandwich, but sometimes the experience just isn’t pleasant. Heat without flavor sucks. And to be fair, it’s a tough balance. Also, it doesn’t suck to spare myself a ‘second opinion, the next day when the sandwich screams goodbye.

I found the spice to be hot, but flavorful. It made my nose run, which is always a good thing. And it was edible, not painful. I’ve done the Hot Ones challenge two dozen times or so, and this heat level was probably around a seven on a ten scale.

The fries were also delicious and well seasoned. The restaurant also had an ice cream selection and quite a few different homemade desserts as well as HUMONGOUS cookies.

Did I mention they have local craft beer on tap, like Alvarado and Other Brother?

They also have patio seating available, if you want to enjoy that Pacific Grove atmosphere!

Heatwaves is worth going out of your way for. The price may catch you off guard, as it was around $20 for the meal. But let’s be real, a Burger King meal is nearly $20 these days and not in the same reality as this Sando.

The chicken tenders are so full of flavor and juicy. I couldn’t recommend visiting here more. Something to know, even the mild is very spicy. Pass on the mac & cheese, not much flavor.

I was going to order the hot chicken sandwich and she said it was a challenge and said it was really hot. She made it seem like it was going to be reaper hot which I can take. She recommended the medium and said she can add a little of the hot sauce they use for the challenge sandwiche. Thank God I carry my own hot sauce (scorpion pepper)
Because when I bit into it I was waiting for any heat to kick in and I felt none. It was sweet with no heat. I took 2 more bites and still no heat so I just pulled out my hot sauce. Over all a very tasty sandwich, no complaints except the hype of the heat of sando.
Nice bit sweet chicken sando.
The mimosa was ok, the orange juice in tasted like it was on it's last leg, a bit when it's rancid and probably needs to be thrown out.

Grabbed two sandwiches to-go. They were delicious and very satisfying, which made finding mold on the bottom bun of one sandwich all the more disappointing. Better quality control was needed.

Very great place, great food. I love a good fried chicken sandwich. Fried chicken was a little too breaded, and a bit undercooked, but so much potential!! Cooking it without skin might be the key.

Some of the best hot chicken we’ve ever had! Was just confused of where the location was as they are inside Rudolfo’s and open only on Sunday.

It's not easy to keep up a fun vibe at an eatery, but the Sunday smiles on customers and staff at Heatwaves make for much of the appeal.

Open only on Sunday from late morning to about 6pm. A simple but creative menu features chunky chicken with heat. Unless you've experienced Nashville hot chicken, try the mild first and work your way up.

Until 2020, I lived in the southeast part of the country and have had a wide variety of hot chicken. Heatwaves does it right.

The use of 'sando' and 'tendies' on the menu does make me cringe, but the food and service makes me smile.

Highly recommend you give Heatwaves your Sunday lunch money.

I love this place and you can’t find another lunch spot like this in town. I have recommended so many people here and have turned them into repeat customers. The chicken sandwiches look so good that when I post them on social media they attract attention from my friends living in other states. I’ve had Chicken sandos from all the local restaurants and from Angry Chikz. Heatwaves tops them all.

Caesar

Fairly priced for the enormous portions! Look forward to it every sunday.
