Disappointed. I’d heard great things about this place, but the experience was underwhelming.
I expected the same fun atmosphere we get from Bi-Rite or Salt & Straw where people line up around the block to get in, but instead this dessert shop served up an attitude of guilt and shame for wanting to find a flavor that I’d enjoy eating, since my first 2 samples tasted artificial and chalky.
My first impression didn’t help. I was expecting to walk in and be bombarded with exotic flavors like Coconut mango extravaganza, but the entire first freezer was vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint, etc. There was more variety at Safeway.
They had about 6 flavors that weren’t average, unfortunately the Chocolate Orange just tasted like they dumped artificial orange extract into Safeway chocolate ice cream, and the Saffron variety was overpowered with rose water making it taste like hand cream.
The group of us spent over $100 there, and they still made us feel guilty about asking for a third tiny 5¢ sample that you could barely taste.
Overall they had one flavor that everyone agreed was better than the rest, the butter beer, which was just like the one at Universal.
I can’t say the value was worth it. The cost of one scoop here would buy a couple gallons of ice cream at the store, and it wasn’t significantly more creamy or flavorful.
I’ve heard new management has taken the magic out of the place, which would explain why after spending an hour eating and chatting there, they only had 2 other customers.

Rick's used to be amazing and we loved visiting (and re-visiting) over the years. However, it seems that it's now under new management, which unfortunately ruined Rick's for us in our most recent visit/experience:
1. Right as we entered, we were told only 2 tastings per person in a very cold tone even though it was not at all busy in the store. We completely understand if it's a store policy but it raises questions/red flags when we saw the group before us getting 5+ tastings per person.
2. The scoops were not even full scoops. This added to the disappointment since the prior Rick experience was to at least give you the full scoop you are paying $6-7/scoop for + more.
3. In line with other reviews: the ice cream flavors and quality seem to have gone downhill too; perhaps, they aren't using the same high-quality ingredients the previous owners used anymore?
Next time, we will rather spend our $ at other ice-cream shops where generosity and warmth in the servings is still a thing!

Outstanding ice cream cake. The birthday cake flavor was… rather rich and the cake was perfectly moist and sweet. The green coarse sugar was a surprising textural contrast too. A pleasant treat.

I came to this local Ice cream place in Palo Alto recently. Good amount of parking and there is also a EV charging place nearby. The had a lot of options to choose from ranging from Scoops, Sundaes and Milkshakes. Staff was helpful and the place overall had good vibes.

This ice cream place used to be very popular.
I believe over the past few years with the new ownership the flavors are not as creamy as before. It’s not as tasty as it used to be.

I needed a good old fashioned chocolate milkshake a couple days after I had surgery and this was the perfect place. It was delicious! They have some interesting flavors too, I bought a cup of a spiced ice cream, kulfi, and it was absolutely fabulous.
