I think as some of the other reviews have mentioned, if people who work here can't tell you the ingredients, or what is coming into contact with the meats, it simply isn't safe to consume. We passed on getting meat from here due to contamination concerns and the extremely marked up prices. We are used to paying top dollar for meat and seafood in this area, but this place seems to go beyond even the higher tier store prices. It simply isn't worth it to us. You can get the same meat at the regular store.

I wish they would list the Fred's steak ingredients. I asked about major allergens. But my kid's still went into anaphylaxis from eating the steak. We don't know what caused it as we don't know the ingredients. I know it was the steak as the rqcrion happened within a couple of minutes of trying it. N everything else was homemade and allergen free.Easter Sunday spent in the er. Never again. I personally love the steak and wanted to have my family enjoy it. But for allergens obviously wouldn't recommend it as you don't know what you are getting. N the counter people didn't seem to know exactly either.

This is a review of the counter service on the meat side. Not the quality of meats.I have been going here for years when I am at Stanford. Jason is great! Helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, the woman who works with him is the worst. My latest trip, I asked for 2lbs. of beef stew meat. She went in the back, came out and said .”I only have 1 lb.” I asked if she could cut some up but she said no…Really you couldn’t cut up a pound?? Nobody else was in the store at the time. Not only does she not do her job but she is very unfriendly, something I have noticed for years. So, I got some lamb meat , which they had. I then asked her for a plastic bag to put the meat in because I was putting it in my backpack. She told me I have to buy one! She has a big roll of cheap produce bags for the meat on top of the counter! Worst employee ever! She’s very rude and hates her life. It’s obvious.. Mind you, this is just the latest experience that made me write a review. I have had many more lame interactions with her in the past, but let them slide. Please fire this lady! Ask for Jason instead, he’s great!

I come here for Freds. You can get game meats there, usually frozen. Lots of sauces for meats, and some take-away meals. Have a grocery sack, insulated or not? You can get baggies of crushed food-grade ice to keep your purchase cold until you get home.Wish they had a branch in San José.

Fred's Steaks are some of the best you can buy.

Favorite meat place for decades. Just bought some Kobe Fred Steak for the first time for some friends coming into town - they were blown away. Every year we do a guys trip to Tahoe and I usually buy 10-11lbs of Fred Steak - it's a guys trip staple every year for 15+ years, gonna absolutely buy the Kobe next year. Yeh, it's $$$, but it's worth it if you can afford it, I know of no other place that has such quality

Fred's Steak is the BEST...can't go wrong, made a 1400 mile trip to pick up a 'surplus' of Fred's steak to bring home to Washington State

My experience purchasing meat steak here was only satisfactory. The variety of meats available was astounding; the prices felt a little high, but the quality is excellent. However, I must admit that the steak I bought was good and cooked well. Overall, Schaub's Meat Fish and Poultry in Palo Alto is a good place to buy meat, but its exorbitant pricing keeps me from giving them a higher rating.

GREAT sandwiches!! This is my go-to stop when I have to go to Stanford (doctor). A bit pricey but it is Stanford. So good.

Beware! They won't let you purchase a smaller portion of meet.I wanted to get 1 pound of beef brisket and when I asked the butcher he blatantly said he only had a larger chunk and that the smallest portion I could get was half of the whole chunk, which is 3lbs. Does that even make sense? I was running late so just took what they offered but i still think it's a nonsense. I feel discriminated and I think it might have been covert racism toward asian.

Great butcher to buy some steaks for cooking. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the meat. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they took the time to recommend the best cuts for my specific needs. The steaks were incredibly flavorful I ended up licking my fingers after dinner my compliments to the chef to.
