Lovely ambience and friendly service. Great menu but execution was hit or miss, with everything being overly salty and buttery. I love French food and have spent a great deal of time in France, and not at all afraid of salt and fat, but the kitchen overdid it by far. I would still go back since it is local and has promise but will ask for them to go moderate on the salt.
There are a lot of wonderful restaurants in Palo Alto, but Zola stands above them all. Excellent food - we go there often and each time there are new dishes/variations that we love and enjoy. Desserts are exquisite. Must enjoy!
This was our first visit to Zola / Bar Zola and it won't be our last. We shared two starters (a seasonal garden salad and the French Onion Soup -- which the kitchen thoughtfully split into two smaller portions for us), and we ordered the boullabaisse and the hangar steak/frites. Both were excellent: the boullabaisse was well-seasoned and the seafood was properly cooked, not rubbery at all (a common problem with cioppino, boullabaisse, and other mixed seafood dishes), while...
