Went to this restaurant on a whim and had a great experience. My waiter, Johnny, was a super friendly and cool guy and brought me some samples from the kitchen on the house and even offered a free beer. I invited him to share the beer with me and we had a great conversation. I ordered the mentaiko udon which was delicious. The atmosphere was great.

Pictures online are fake. We ordered a soup that tasted like old socks smell. After finding out that most items on the menu were not available we waited 1.5 hours for main courses and finally told them to cancel this as there was NO food coming out of the kitchen. The restaurant was not busy at all, when we arrived we were the only ones there. The poor waitress looked so stressed as she had zero support; DO NOT RUIN YOUR EVENING HERE. I beg you.

There are a decent amount of bad reviews as to the service and pricing but the food was delicious. Yes some things took more time than one would like & yes, the prices really are a bit much, but the food was great. They brought in some snacks on the house while we waited for the food (maybe they’ve read the reviews?) I’d come back for sure but hopefully they’ll be able to improve a bit in line with some of the reviews. I usually don’t eat meat but it was a group dinner, but also they didn’t have ANY veggie options! :(

This was my second time coming to eat lunch here, the first time I came and ordered the Pork katsu, it was so delicious! It came out fast and fresh! I went with 2 other coworkers and they also enjoyed the pork katsu!

I came back today and they have bento meals for lunch, I got the beef bulgogi bento and it was so good! It came with rice, kimchi, cucumber, egg, mandu, and a salad! It was so good! I love the kimchi I had to get another side of it! Everything came out so fast and tasted so good! I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a quick lunch! The staff were so nice and helpful both times.

The service was atrocious. The portions were minuscule! Paying $16 for a small bowl of chicken bites is outrageous; it was more of an appetizer than a main dish. The menu listed a 20oz beer for $8, but we were charged $8 for a 12oz bottle because "that was all they had." The waiter was completely out of his depth, barely attending to us as he was preoccupied with making cocktails and bussing tables. This was a dreadful experience, and we will definitely not be returning.

We were on our way to Noodle St. when we passed by Jumak. I had been wanting to go, but it seemed on the fancier side ($30-ish/dish) so wanted to go for a special occasion. We saw the A-frame signs outside and the prices (and dishes) were different than when I had passed by before!

My friends were game to try since the menu looked good. We went inside, and we were the only patrons, so we questioned our choice, but was quickly corrected. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. The place was SO cute and very Instagrammable.

The food is Asian fusion, leaning heavily towards Korean and Japanese with some American/Italian thrown it. It sounds weird, but it worked well. It seems like they're going through a menu reboot to make the food (and pricing) a little more accessible. The server (which we think was the owner) said the Korean styled fried chicken was popular on the previous menu, so they kept it. They're keeping their more popular items and adding/changing others.

There's Korean drinking food, skewers, and some heavier dishes, and they're adding sushi and an ice cream bar this week.

They also started offering lunch specials this week ($14 bentos - protein, rice, soup) to catch the lunch crowd. We'll be back tomorrow to try it out.

Service: Was a little slow, but we were enjoying each other's company, so we didn't mind. Like some Asian establishments, you may just need to flag someone down to ask for something, but they're super accommodating

The food (we didn't get too many pics since we ate before the camera could) - we ordered:
- Galbi pasta - small portion was $13 (large portion was $25). It was so good we ended up ordering a second small portion. Sauce was a galbi jus with butter and cream tossed with linguine, topped with cheddar cheese and a couple pieces of galbi, and torched tableside. Fun little touch, and it was delicious.
- Skewers - bacon wrapped asparagus, spicy pork belly, pork belly, and seared scallops. Would recommended everything except the pork belly - which was just okay. We ordered another set of skewers since they were so tasty
- Japanese crudo (scallops with microgreens and cherry tomatoes) - not what we were expecting - beautifully presented but liked the seared scallops a little better.
- Garlic fried with truffle oil - they were unexpectedly waffle fries. They were good but expected "regular" fries. Not complaining, just unexpected. I'm a potato person, so I usually order potato-y things, but not a "must have"
- KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) - we ordered this but the server came back and said they didn't have any ready since it hadn't been marinating long enough. He said it wouldn't be the best it could be so he didn't want to serve it and would make it up to us. We appreciated the honesty and will be back to try.
- Soft serve - the server/owner gave us a complimentary sample since he said they're hoping to launch the ice cream bar soon. It was a vanilla chocolate swirl, topped with five spice sugar, matcha condensed milk, and injeolmi (I think). It was light and had subtle complexity because of the light toppings. We were so full but a great way to end since it wasn't heavy, and I always like something a little sweet.

Drinks: Some sort of plum soju drink (delicious) and ginger yuzu ade (refreshing, not much ginger, very yuzu forward, which I loved).

Parking: we parked at the lot on Union (one-way street, west direction), entrance is across from The Container Store. We were parked for about 2.5 hrs, and it was $7.

Overall: Loved the inventiveness of it, trying out different things, and iterating. Quality was good, service may need to quicken a bit, but we'll be back tomorrow to take advantage of the lunch specials!

if you like a korean drinks + bar food vibe in a cool, hip space, you have to check out jumak! i’ve been waiting for a spot like this to open up in pasadena, and i was not disappointed. the food is great, the drinks are excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and fun.

we were a little deterred by how empty it was and the unusual menu, but our expectations were totally exceeded. i recommend the tofu kimchi, all of the buns, the makgeolli in traditional bowls, and the cocktails. will definitely be coming pack!

Interesting restaurant. The food is tasty and presented well, and the interior design is very unique. My chair was a pair of hands. When I went they were understaffed though, and the food took suuuuper long to come out. The waiter was very apologetic though. They specialize in smaller dishes that are like tapas.
