Rose Tree Cottage is an absolute gem. From the moment you step through the door, you’re welcomed with warmth, charm, and genuine hospitality. The owners are truly delightful—gracious, jovial, and endlessly attentive—making you feel like a treasured guest rather than a visitor.
Their tea service is exceptional. Every detail, from the perfectly brewed tea to the beautifully presented treats, reflects care, tradition, and a love for creating memorable experiences. It’s the kind of place that reminds you how special a proper afternoon tea can be.
If you’re looking for an inviting, elegant, and wholeheartedly hospitable tea experience in Pasadena, Rose Tree Cottage is unmatched. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience. My partner at the time treated us here and it truly felt like a treat. I was honestly worried going in that we might get treated differently but we were treated with upmost respect, care and good humor. They were super accommodating too. Food was fantastic. Tea was just right. The scones and yorkshire pudding stood out to me the most. They approach teatime my favorite way — graceful, eclectic, genuine. I meant to write a review much sooner, better late than never!

The owners(?) are very grumpy and rude. Smacked my friends hand for touching the teapot. Wouldn't let me wear my hat despite being sat outside in the freezing February rain. I guess they are giving authentic British ambience? Dreadful snooty people.

Strongly recommend coming here for an afternoon of tea. It is a wonderful spot if you want a reason to dress up, drink delicious tea, and the best scones! Would also recommend their tea/bites boxes which comes with an assortment of delights.
You cannot go wrong spending a few hours at the Rose Tree Cottage, and will never be disappointed by the amazing service.
This truly is a gem in Pasadena :)

Such a gem! A lovely, intimate place to have afternoon tea. You can tell the owners (who have been doing this for 50 years) put a lot of thought into each detail.

A neighborhood gem that serves smoked trout and avocado toast with a twist. I went for their fennel‑apple salad and pear‑ginger tea. The staff shared that all produce comes from local farms. Light, airy space with small succulents on each table. A peaceful alternative to busy cafés downtown

This place used to be wonderful but now it's just an over priced filthy place to have tea. It looks like they just serve tea in a hoarders home. The place is overfilled with old, faded and filthy things that need to be cleaned or thrown out. Nothing matches and it isn't cohesive. This place may have been amazing 30 years ago but not anymore!! Don't waste your time or money here. Super disappointed.

Stopped by for some scones at 5:15pm right before closing. The shopped keeper's were so gracious attending to our needs. There were delicious samples available and our group of 4 ladies spent a plenty. You just couldn't help it so many yummy choices. 😋

The most authentic teahouse there will ever be in Pasadena or anywhere else for that matter. My daughter has been bringing me here for Mother’s Day every year for the past five years if you enjoy authentic tea in a lovely garden with wonderful service, please go here.

Rose Tree Cottage is a delightful place for afternoon tea, and a wonderful spot to be proposed to! I had chosen the spot to celebrate my friend’s birthday, and so my fiancée, with the blessing of said friend, conspired with Edmund and Mary, the owners of Rose Tree Cottage, to craft a wonderful surprise proposal! We were treated to a delicious tea in the garden, with fun British decor, and great music. The food was wonderful, and I’ll never forget being served a ring and a rose in a silver serving dish by Edmund as our butler! Mary was kind enough to video the proposal as well. It was a total surprise, and I said yes!
