We've been coming to Tops for years. I'm a pastrami guy and Tops has the best Pastrami in the area. Yes, better than The Hat. Much better!
They're usually busy, which is good. The parking lot can fill up and I've had to park on the street many times. The person taking my order is hit and miss. Sometimes great! Sometimes not so good. Some of the people behind the counter have an attitude - definitely not good.
What else have we had at Tops? Their burgers are great! They make a tasty steak sandwich. I can't eat fries anymore, but when I could, they had a huge serving of good french fries. Onion rings are good too! Prepandemic, we would have a steak plate - came with a bowl of soup, fries, bread and a salad. Or the chicken plate - same as the steak plate, but with a chicken breast. Both are gone - they removed them sometime during the pandemic.
If you haven't tried Tops, you should. Their food is very good and there are some nostalgic pictures inside - they've been around when it was Route 66!

I got t he BLAT. I have gotten this often in the past. It was not up to the standard I have had in the the past. It was always enough to share with someone. This time there were only 3 pieces of bacon, avocado was skimpy. I was very disappointed. It was a small sandwich compared to what I've gotten in the past.

Best spot in East Pasadena. Been grubbing here since 1987.
I came here two years back but somehow totally forgot that I did. Researching for the best burger I can get east of LA I found on Reddit locals recommending original tops again. This time I got half pound hamburger with addition of pastrami. Price came out to around $12 but OMG so much meat! Totally recommend if you're a meat lover pastrami is really the play here. Definitely get the pastrami.

Havent been to the Pasadena/SGV area last trip and had a free day so decided to finally try the Original Tops which has been bookmarked on my go to list for a while.
Conveniently located off the 210 Freeway, went at lunchtime so the street leading to the drive thru had a line so decided to drive past that and found parking in the neighborhood. Anywhere you see a line, it must be good. This rule applies here?
Had to get an orange bang to start it off, along with the Tops Special Burger (with a massive heaping of Pastrami) and a SMALL chili cheese fries since you just gotta full send. The chili cheese fries even though it says small is enough for two people. Yep its quite massive for its size.
Eyes are bigger than my stomach. Ended up taking half of the burger and fries home. Worth the hour drive each way today....5 stars??

As an avid chef and cook. Our first time visit.The burger's quality was not worth the price. Unfortunately, my partner had flies continuously bombarding her burger that she had only taken about 3 bites out of before the flies continued to attack her burger. She was disappointed and disgusted! How can you blame. Mind you, this happened while setting inside one of their booths. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.
