Great experience! We seek out smaller wineries which we believe adds to the overall wine tasting experience. We met Michael Gill and his dog Radar upon walking in. He educated us on his amazing wines and the local area. It was like hanging out with an old friend. We'll be back for sure.
A Truly Exceptional Wine Tasting Experience at Michael Gill Cellars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our visit to Michael Gill Cellars was an absolute highlight of our honeymoon trip! We actually stumbled upon this gem by accident—while trying to find another winery, we got a little lost in the beautiful hills of Paso Robles. It turned out to be an incredible stroke of luck! Michael Gill himself welcomed us, offering a complimentary wine tasting that turned out to be one of the best we had during our entire honeymoon.
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning, peaceful landscape surrounding the winery. Nestled among rolling hills, oak trees, and centuries-old vineyards, the location exudes a sense of timelessness and natural beauty that perfectly complements the exceptional wines they produce.
The tasting room is like no other we’ve visited—blending rustic elegance with old-world charm, reminiscent of historic French hunting lodges. It’s a truly unique space that invites you to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area while savoring world-class wines. The views from the tasting room and patio are breathtaking, overlooking the vineyards and the surrounding countryside, creating the perfect setting for a memorable wine experience.
As for the wines, they were absolutely exquisite. Michael’s skill and knowledge were evident in every pour. We tasted several varietals, including the award-winning Tempranillo and Syrah, both reflected the unique terroir of the region—steep slopes, rocky soils, and varying sun exposures that make this area ideal for growing Rhone varietals. The wines were incredibly well-crafted, with bold flavors and perfect balance. Each sip felt like a celebration of Paso Robles’ unique landscape.
What made the experience even more special was spending time with Michael. We absolutely loved speaking with him—his passion for winemaking and his stories about the vineyard, the land, and his journey were fascinating. It felt like we were chatting with an old friend, and we left feeling so grateful for the time we spent with him. His genuine warmth and hospitality made our visit unforgettable.
We also appreciated the fascinating and unexpected touch in the tasting room—world-class hunting trophies, including life-sized mounts of a polar bear and lion, added a unique element to the experience. It was a fun and memorable feature that made our visit even more special.
Overall, our accidental discovery of Michael Gill Cellars was one of the best parts of our honeymoon. With amazing wines, an unforgettable setting, and a knowledgeable, welcoming host, we left with a newfound appreciation for the artistry of Paso Robles wines. We can’t wait to return!
Fantastic wines. Had fun at the tasting. Nice view of the grapes. Had a blast talking with the owner!
We have been members for yesrs.....Wonderful wines and Michael is a joy to visit with.
Wines are unreal but follow up and customer service not so much. The wine is so good I would have given them 5 stars but at the beginning of the pandemic we were charged for our 6 bottle shipment but never received it. We then had our CC and email hacked and tried to get our money returned or at least get the shipment we were charged. Took months for Gill to call then he said he'd look into it and get back to us. Never did so we are done with Gill cellars please cancel and do not send us any shipments
Great experience and excellent wine!
By far the best winery I've been to. Had a tasting and there wasn't one one I didn't like. Michael was a great host and made our trip out enjoyable. Im definitely looking forward to coming back.
A visit to Michael Gill winery is a must and worth the drive up the canyon. Michael is an eclectic character and the wines are unique in that he has planted many varietals not normally seen in Paso Robles. Highly recommend.
Very laid back wine tasting experience. The Syrah was my favorite. The owner was there and he was very welcoming. Definitely worth the trip.
Prize winning wines and Michael is a delight that I had the pleasure of meeting. I fell hard for the Tannat 2018, became a member.

We had an amazing experience and the wine is just spectacular!
We had a truly memorable experience. The wines are great, and Michael Gill was pouring wine giving us insight into his wine. He specializes in single varietals. He makes you feel like you're an old friend. His wine tasting room is fun and his patio has great views of the valley. Perfect for a picnic. We are big fans and couldn't recommend it strongly enough.
Michael turned us on to our 1st Voignier. Truly an enjoyable stop that was very educational. Great tasting room. Great wines. Try the Petit Syrah. Michael was a great host and all the guests were great to hang with.
The best winery in Paso. Michael was so friendly and personable, he let us taste the exclusive wines. Every wine we had was amazing. Highly recommend . We will be back!
