20/10 stars if I could! Steve was amazing and definitely made the experience so much more enjoyable. He was knowledgeable about the wine and went above and beyond on explaining the process of Shale Oak wine making. Not only that but the wine was so delicious. I’ve traveled the world and visited many different wineries but I will say Shale Oak wines is at the top of my list. Impressive balance and structure, rich flavors with a smooth, well-crafted finish. It was well-made and consistently enjoyable throughout our entire tasting — a standout choice across the board. We will be recommending Shale Oak and Steve to all our friends who visit Paso Robles!

Great wines! Their Grenache and Zin are winners! Dog friendly, beautiful architecture, and good ambiance.

I visited this place on October 4, 2025, and had a terrible experience with the wine tasting. I believe management should retrain the gentleman behind the bar, as he has a poor attitude. He treated customers with disrespect, and I find it unacceptable to throw the wine list at someone who is there to enjoy themselves and spend money.

We were there afternoon of Saturday October 4, 2025. We have been to many wineries over the years and have never been to one with such rude server. This was the gentleman serving behind the bar. He threw a pamphlet at a fellow customer who asked for a brochure. Very hostile when describing the wines we paid 40/per person to taste. He clearly underpoured us.

We visited Shale Oak on Saturday. Their wines were good but the gentleman who took care of us was the worst that we have had in all the years (18) that we have been coming to Paso Robles. He was rude and condescending. He even threw the pamphlet about the wine club on the counter towards us when we asked about the wine club. If we were ever to return there we would walk back out if he was there.

Best tasting experience we had in Paso. Great wines, great ambiance. Very educational tasting. Truly a boutique winery experience.

Very good wine. Small portions on the pours but otherwise very educational and nice atmosphere.

We have a subscription and it comes on-time with lovely seasonal wine picked by the winemaker.

Discovered this wine brand at the 2025 BlendFest event. We went to their stargazing wine tasting event, and it was incredible. Following a three-day storm, clear skies and fresh air returned. The wine-tasting room, a half-mile off Highway 46, is easy to miss; use your GPS to ensure a safe and quick arrival. Parking is ample, with space for about 40 vehicles. This elegant rustic property offers a wonderful ambiance, including a water fountain and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Sampling their wines at BlendFest led me to try their 2015 Reserve Mercurey Cabernet Sauvignon, a library wine that exceeded expectations. The lounge music, cheese board, stars, and new friends complemented each other perfectly. I especially want to thank the vendor for the amazing charcuterie boards at the wine and stargazing event; the meats, cheeses, fruits, and chocolates were a perfect complement to the experience.

If it weren’t for the horrible service we received I would give this place 5 stars. We walk in and the whole place REEKED of bleach. We asked to sit outside for our tasting due to the smell and the older man with glasses behind the desk said (jokingly but not in a haha way) “I’m tired so you can sit inside” I persisted that we could not sit inside and so he said fine and we sat outside. Then during the tasting he skipped one of the wines and argued with us saying he didn’t until we asked enough questions and then he goes “oh…you’re right I did.” On top of all of this, the tasting pours were a third of what is normally poured during a wine tasking. Like hardly 2 sips per glass.

I wanted to buy a couple bottles because the wine was so good, but after his service, and his attitude I didn’t want to give them any more of my money!

So disappointing.
