This place is very well located in Paso Robles, with an incredible view of the park and the sunset. My husband and I decided to enjoy the terrace atmosphere, which was very pleasant. However, we noticed several issues. There were tables that had not been cleaned and broken water glasses left around. The food looked appetizing and well presented, but when I tried the avocado, it was black and spoiled. My husband’s dish was extremely spicy—so much that it was not edible at all. It’s a nice place overall, but unfortunately the kitchen seems to lack proper food safety and contamination protocols. I honestly think it needs an inspection. It’s not fair to pay for food that is spoiled or impossible to eat due to excessive spiciness—especially when sushi is supposed to be fresh. What about you? How was your experience at this place?

We had such a wonderful experience at Umi Sushi & Sake for my daughters birthday. After dinner, they graciously allowed us to bring in and enjoy a birthday cake my daughter had won in a raffle, which was more than gracious of them. The food is always fantastic, and every staff member is consistently kind, welcoming, and attentive.
A special shout-out to our server, Kayla, who is always amazing and made it a great visit. The manager went above and beyond by surprising my daughter with a gift card for her birthday, which made her feel so loved and celebrated.
We were happy to share the cake with the staff and are incredibly grateful for their hospitality. This is one of our favorite restaurants, and experiences like this are exactly why. Highly recommend!

Had the Pork Katsu Bento Box lunch. Unfortunately the pork was dry and way over cooked so bad I couldn’t eat it. Don’t recommend this for lunch.

Miss serenity is the worst server at this restaurant My girlfriend accidentally left her bag there. within 10 minutes of calling and going back to this so-called restaurant. The bag was not there so we asked who cleaned the table. The guy who cleaned the table also said there is no bag. We moved the booths and everything to look for this bag and it was not there. We contacted the manager the following day twice to go over the footage. The time me and my girlfriend went in around 3 p.m. to speak with such manager he was nowhere to be found as he had knowledge of we were coming and still left.And the bag was magically reappeared hanging on a metal rack next to the cash register. Like I said, dishonest childlike people here. magic the bag is back. There's nothing that's worth stealing in there Anyways. Serenity and staff who knows she might have gave me a fake name too Miss serenity.
And this is quite concerning as well as my girlfriend received a phone call 1 -2-26 and the manager basically downplayed everything saying that their young servers and they have been written up in the past. like Okay, that's a reoccurring actions from them. Why are they still working here when they've been written up multiple times ,beats me. I guess we're going to have to contact the better Business bureau and let them know about these instances. Sad

This has become our go to sushi spot. Rolls are fresh and delicious. And my kids all LOVE the fried rice! Yummy tempura too. Great location to people watch or catch a bite before a movie!

I live close to Umi so I go in a few times a week for the Umi Special. My family and I go in at least once a month and my kids LOVE sushi! When I take them, its definitely not a cheap dinner. we spend just under $200. I order the same thing every time for the special. This last time I went in the chef refused to make the change I always ask for. I'm just not a fan of spicy tuna so I ask to switch out the spicy tuna for spicy crab. this one particular chef just wouldn't do it. That's fine, but I feel like it should be equal across the board. It's not right as a loyal customer I have been ordering the same thing for SO LONG, and then one guy just didn't feel like doing it. A little disappointing but oh well. I came to Jin instead :)

Great food, if they make it right. Consistent issue with attention to detail, or leaving me on hold for 15+ minutes when I call for pick up, and going to order in person and seeing it’s not even busy. When they make my food right and I could actually order, it makes a great place for a date night

Umi is FABULOUS and I will 100% be a repeat customer. My husband and I both have dietary restrictions and the staff were so accommodating. We appreciate the folks at Umi and highly recommend them!
Usually good but if you dont serve after 9:30 but you stay open until 10 maybe change your hours to 9:30 so a customer doesn't get seated then told sorry the kitchen is closed. And they assumed we sat ourselves when their own employee seated us. Rediculous, if you make a mistake, own it and do right by the customer.

2pm on a Monday, ordered 2 charishi and a bento box. The bento box was okay.......the charishi was amateur night out of a dumpster. The fish stunk, and it was a slab of meet instead of sushi cuts. The tuna was brown and spreading apart. One white fish looked like it wasn't even cleaned. Floors were sticky. We decided to take shots of peptobismol from the nearest store we could find. I highly recommend to avoid this place.
