It's amazing what the chef can do in this kitchen that's the size of a postage stamp. We love the steam donkey and look forward to it for every ski trip. Sam the host/drink taker is always upbeat and fun! The food is always hot, fresh and delish. Don't sleep on the soup!! Every soup I've had has been 10/10!

Great Steaks, Chillie Oma. Cold day, service is awesome, good bar experience. It's a small place but worth the experience.

Enjoyed a cocktail at the steam donkey after a very technical day of skiing at dodge ridge mountain resort. My gin and tonic was impeccable and the locals were friendly. Thank you!

The most amazing food and service ever! The ribeye, lamb, and pork chops were out of site, along with the soup and salads!

We always enjoy a good meal from here. We live in the area and like to come to the donkey for special occasions. My meal was delicious bone in pork chop my husband had the ribeye steak cooked to perfection. We shared a slice of chocolate cake which definitely is meant for two people.

Heidi Lupo (the owners daughter) is an egotistical jealous woman who manages this otherwise decent establishment. She thinks she controls the whole area since her mommy leases some of the surrounding establishments. She’s out to prove something and strives for that control since maybe she doesn’t get it from her unsuccessful marriage. Falsifying police reports and trying to extort money from false claims of violence from the locals like myself that she can’t have any control over are a common thing that she regularly tries for. 5 foot 5, 190 lbs and big nose. You can’t miss her. Screaming and yelling at me while attempting to push me out of the establishment because I was parked in what she believed to be a non- parking spot is how she deals with patrons giving the establishment business whom she doesn’t agree with. Steer clear of this place

This spot is situated next to a lake resort that caters to campers and cabin owners in their specific area. the service and attitude is on par with such a locale - they have plenty of business with or without you. i live an hour away but probably wont be back to check out even their lake. hoa vibes. (actually on research its forest service cabins with an hoa, strange). food looks good but never got that far.at the front, we were told we'd have 'to fight with the bar' when we asked if we could sit at the two empty seats at the bar. or seat at 8 (it was 6:30 and no one else waiting). they didnt want to serve food and drinks at the bar, tho the kitchen was in the bar, no worries dudes. went to strawberry inn for dinner down the road instead. very pleasant, had laughs with locals and ate all our delicious food there before the donkey suggested we'd even receive our seats. apparently the sentiment we had for steam was shared with the others at the bar. know where i'm goin next time i swing through the pass!

My family has been camping at Pinecrest for generations. This weekend, for the first time, we had dinner (TWICE) at The Steam Donkey. The food was incredible! Quality, flavor, presentation - top notch. The restaurant is very small. You definitely need a reservation on the weekend. Jake the chef is a master! His dishes rival great restaurants in the Bay Area. The portions are generous. The garlic mashed potatoes are a must.

I'm a local cabin owner and I noticed the place the last time we were at the lake. I decided to give it a try. When I arrived there were men packed in chairs waiting for a table and they were loud and seemed drunk. The staff saw me and asked how many and I said one. She seemed irritated and informed that she could fit me in at 7:00 pm. It was 5:30 pm. So I asked if I could order a to go meal and she said NO? She said I could try the bar and maybe he would let me order a to go meal! No thank you! So off I went and I have no intention of coming back.

Meh. I suppose those writing about veggie options here are omnivores. The few tired and uninspired options are typical of the area; not a big surprise. I live here for the mountains not the food ;). If you're veg and want an interesting creative entree in the county you gotta cook it yourself. I do like the patio and cocktails as well as the interior.

Very delicious! Ask for their homemade teriyaki sauce on your salmon! Yummy!

Thanks for seating us before you closed. It would have been a long night last winter with nothing else open and us without food. Food was tasty and to top off the meal they gave the kids ice cream for dessert. With the bar on the side, regulars giving hugs to staff and the cozy quarters this place made us feel homely.
