Independent Restaurant & Bar

We were recommended to dine here by a local business owner while heading back to the Bay Area from a weekend in Tahoe, and we’re so glad we stopped by! We were traveling with our two small fur babies and were looking for a place where we could enjoy a meal with our puppies.

The food was fantastic. We had the mushrooms and Thai chicken skewers for appetizers — both were excellent — and the lemon caper salmon for our main course, which was absolutely delicious. Great experience overall, and we would definitely stop here again!

I took my Daughter there for her birthday because I heard many good thing about this place. Where do I start, First I think they need to google Stuffed Mushrooms, I order their stuffed mushrooms and got a plate of cut up mushrooms in a garlic sauce but no stuffing? Second I heard the Truffle Mac and Cheese was to die for - it was about a 6 out of 10, the steak was ok at best and my daughter was really disappointment. I am not a complainer and understand food cost - over 40 years experience with restaurants in areas such as Monterey and Carmel. Over all the food was medium at best and way over priced for what you get. In my line of work I meet hundred of people a week and when the name Independents I let then know about my experience and my opinion. Again this in only my opinion.

Another perfect experience. New Year's Eve at The Independent was excellent. Perfect food, excellent service.

Second time at The Independent to celebrate New Year's Eve. Excellent menu choices, full menu plus a special menu for the evening featuring cocktails, appetizers, entree's and desserts. Absolutely delicious and the portions are not skimpy. Thank you!

We booked a late reservation for New Year's Eve and wound up with a 4:15pm dining time. The inside was completely empty and the outside was about half empty. I think they were holding back a lot of reservations from Open Table. We were only able to book a reservation for two people but were sat at a table for four people. We may have invited my parents if we had known we could have brought four people. I recommend calling for a reservation rather than booking through Open Table. After we sat down and ordered drinks we waited about 15 minutes for someone to come back and check on us. The heaters outside were a bit too much and we were getting really hot. I noticed there were at least three different waiters in the small outside area we were seated in and it was taking a long time for our waiter to come back each time he checked on us. The food was good, but not excellent. The menu and specials were the same as they were a couple of months previous. I was expecting a more varied menu based on the representation of a “seasonal” menu and the special occasion of New Year's. We previously sat in the outside section closer to the road and it was very cute. There is a water fountain and nice lighting. This time we were seated in the outdoor section further from the road and it is not nearly as nicely decorated. In fact, I thought their holiday decorations were a little tacky. It was just a string or two of colored lights and some red ribbon strung about. We ordered the sautéed mushrooms, wedge salad, a burger and the Tuscan bucatini pasta. The mushrooms are amazing, the burger is very good, the pasta and salad were okay. I was very impressed the first time we dined here in late October. I was very underwhelmed this time around.

Pleasant atmosphere overall. I ordered the beef fillet, which was flavorful, though it lacked the seared crust that would have elevated it. Service left something to be desired—our bar order took far too long to arrive. On the upside, the kitchen was efficient, and the food itself came out in a timely manner

We enjoyed a phenomenal dinner and drinks here then walked Main Street to see the Christmas tree lighting. Who knew my boyfriend was going to propose! 💍 Dinner and diamonds!

Always great service. Food is great but as with everything these days a little expensive. My company enjoyed trying different specialty drinks from the bar. Most of all we received quality service from an incredibly friendly staff! Thank you Mariel and Jake for making our traditional lunch so enjoyable.

This restaurant is my family and friends' favorite. Last night 4 of us shared four entrees and sides. The other member of our party had his own feast of salmon. For the 4 of us who shared, we ate the most tender and delectable double pork chops ever, cutting like butter. Our beef selections were over the top tender and mouth watering. I had crusted fish, amazing flavor and texture. The crust was crunchy and the perfect compliment to the succulent fish. Caesar salad had just the right balance, crunch and tang. All our sides from turnip fries, amazing, to broccolini, mashed potatoes, truffle mac and cheese were perfectly done and seasoned and "yummy". The salmon guy had a creamy ice cream sundae with rich fudge sauce. The rest of us had no room. Next time we'll make room for any of the most delicious cheesecakes ever, especially the chocolate. The service is always gracious and attentive without intrusion or hovering. Beverages from my husband's margarita to the perfect red wine were delicious and beautifully served. We have dined at the Independent many times. We and our guests are always thrilled with the innovative delicious choices. Everyone we've shared a meal with at the Independent has gone back again. Do indulge in the grilled cheese for lunch. We all love the warm inviting atmosphere. It also has a really good beautiful bar. Wow, we are so lucky to have such a special restaurant there to fill all our food fantasies.

Tyrell is always excellent! Ryan was great also. Great staff, excellent food, service and atmosphere. The Independent is a favorite for us. You won't be disappointed with anything on the menu, which changes slightly with the seasons.

So great. We chose to dine here instead of going to the steakhouse at the casino last night. Absolutely amazing.
