Wonderful wine, beautiful views. Stop here if you are looking for a winery near placerville.
This is an amazing place with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful views over the vineyards. The wine is truly excellent — rich, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care. It’s a perfect spot to spend an afternoon, enjoy a tasting, and just unwind. Highly recommended.
Stunning views. Very friendly service and atmosphere. Wine is great. Especially enjoyed the Barbera, Merlot, and estate Cab S. A beautiful spot in a very underrated AVA.
Beautiful landscape, sitting areas. Friendly environment, staff. Wine was pleasing. We had a nice visit.
Leashed dogs are welcome.
We brought our group of 50 people to this lovely winery, nestled in the sierra foothills above Placerville. It was beyond amazing! The patio overlooking their beautiful vineyard, the staff was so attentive and the wine was perfection. Thank you Lava Cap, we can't wait to come back!

The wines are wonderful and the service was excellent. As the weather was bad, the lady at counter (she is married into the family), allowed us into the backroom where we could sit to taste and enjoy our food!
Vickie poured whatever we requested if a bottle was open of that particular varietal
Excellent patio to enjoy some wine. We did the wine tasting and had a great experience with Jeff.
The tasting is $15 but waived if you buy a bottle. You are able to see the vineyard almost all the way to the river. Clean bathrooms. They did have boxes food. The tasting includes white and red, east for everyone to find something they like.
Love this place !
My thanks to Jennifer for an excellent wine tasting experience today. She was kind, professional and gracious.

Good wine, nice snacks, great view
My husband picked this winery due to it's beautiful location and they allow dogs. Jeff gave us great service and recommendations around the area. The wines were delicious too. I loved the Cabernet Franc.
Full disclosure, we're members here!
It's one of our favorite wineries to visit. We make yearly visits to the Placerville area, and there is never a time we do not stop at Lava Cap.
The views are spectacular & the wines are excellent. The staff are excellent and well-versed in wines & anything about the winery itself. Our host, Jeff, was a lot of fun to talk to and was very informative with paired foods for the multiple wine tastes that we sipped.
We ended up spending two and a half hours there on the deck and on the lower level picnic tables
Cool place, beautiful setting. Been visiting this area for 15 years. Wineries go through periods of ups and downs; this place used to be better. Sour whites. Too many varietals of reds that are just so-so.
Spectacular scenery, cozy vibe and delicious wines. John was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and truly made our visit memorable. Highly recommend.
