Over the years (30 +) the menu has slightly slightly. There are no longer space shuttle dining plates for the kids. But the food has been consistently good. Enjoy this quiet Japanese restaurant.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible, kid friendly, and easy parking.

We have moved away from the area but anytime we are anywhere near Sato we have to stop by. We have searched high and low and have never found anyplace that comes close to the quality and taste of the sushi from Sato's!!!

ha! so i wrote a review for a similarly named restaurant in West Kelowna, BC and accidentally put it here for a restaurant where i live... which i hadn't tried until recently. why ot took me almost 13yrs of living in Pleasanton to try them i have no idea why... but it was a giant mistake and i'm glad i finally ate here. Not since Tomo closed in downtown Pleasanton have a found a Japanese restaurant really worth going to in Pleasanton. well folks, I give you Sato. Sato is small, hidden away in a complex and has not a huge menu selection but what i've eaten there has been excellent. it feels like a family run restaurant where care is given to what they serve and how they prepare it. i stopped in for lunch one day and just some agedashi tofu, tekka rolls and yakitori. all were excellent and i would've ordered more if i wasn't planning on going out for dinner that evening. it reminded me of going to a few of my favorite restaurants in San Jose Japantown.went back for dinner about a month later with my wife. she had the chicken nabe and i ordered a sushi dinner set. we added a tempura appetizer to share. the tempura was great! hot, crispy and not oily. the fish tasted fresh and the little handroll was more than just a throw in. the nabe was good according to the wife. i tasted a bit and concur... i could've ordered that and been just as happy. two things that stood out to me and most may not care? but it's the little things. one, the miso soup didn't taste like it came out of a packet and two... and this... this is the most important thing. the plain white rice that accompanied the nabe main was perfect. perfect.i'm sure there are other places i've missed here in Pleasanton but i'm happy to say Sato will now supplant the Japanese restaurants we've gone too because they were close or we were just accustomed to going to... unless it's because we need a larger maki assortment.now to properly review Sato West in West Kelowna, British Columbia

For whatever reason they seated me at a table. I was asked to leave to make room for other guests after being there for less than an hour. The food was mediocre at best. There is nothing special about this place. I'll never go there again.

The beef sukiyaki is still a winner here along with their tempura side dish. The service is outstanding and I felt welcomed here. The place is a little messy but not an issue as the food makes up for the decor. I'm probably going to have the sukiyaki again as it's so good here.

I’m honestly not one to give bad reviews but this was, hands down, the WORST sushi and WORST service I have ever experienced. I truly do not understand how this restaurant has a 4.6 rating. It started with the service-we were mostly ignored and had to flag down our waitress for drink orders upon arrival, then after our first rolls were served we didn’t see the second rolls for well over 30 minutes, then we had to flag her down to get the check or we could’ve been there all night! Now the food…this was the smallest sushi portions I’ve ever been served and we eat sushi regularly. The fish was tiny portions, limp, and not fresh at all. My dynamite roll had some sort of, what looked like and had the texture of regurgitated fish. And the rainbow roll, that finally arrived after 30+ minutes, had almost no rice, old fish, and tasted like mayonnaise! I even tried removing that mayonnaise mess in the middle but a) it took me forever, and b) it left almost nothing of each piece of sushi! In addition, it was a whopping $18! I have never paid that much for a rainbow roll! When I abandoned the attempt to dig all the mayonnaise out on the second piece I was never asked by the server if I wanted a box or if there was a problem with the food! It was like they knew it was horrible! So after my husband had a beer and 2 rolls and I had water and 2 rolls our bill was $78!!! I have NEVER paid this much for sushi AND IT WAS TERRIBLE! I can absolutely say this because my husband and I eat sushi REGULARLY. We ended up going to a bar to listen to live music and eat bar food since we were still hungry!

I hate having to do this but this was probably the worst sushi I've ever had. My wife and I had a rainbow roll. Small and all you can taste is mayonnaise that was a majority of the roll. My wife took one bite and couldn't stomach any more. Had a couple of other rolls that were very small. Four rolls and one beer and the bill was $78. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my days so I expect it to be expensive but I also know what good sushi is and this was not it.It took 30 minutes from the first two rolls before we got our second two. Service was so slow, had to track down our bill because we never saw our server after we got our meal. We were still hungry so we went downtown to get something to eat.

Came on a Sunday for dinner. The restaurant does not have any waiting list system to register customers in line. Keeping of waiting order relies on the memory of a specific waiter. Don’t come if anxiety is what you want to avoid.

Myself, and my 5 and 3 year olds had a fantastic time at Sato. The place is very quiet and I almost ended up leaving since my kids can be occasionally loud while dining. The service was excellent. We put our orders in quickly. The staff quickly brought out the kids sushi prior to the larger adult roles. The food was excellent. For a sushi spot, the prices seemed pretty affordable. Hope to return soon.

Sushi is one of my favorite types of Japanese food, and I truly love the food from here! I love that the rolls are not doused with sauce which covers all the flavors of the fish. I love the crispy unagi, no place does it quite like here! The unagi sauce is not too sweet at all and really compliments the food. I always leave this place wanting more, not because I didn't have enough food but because it was so good! Besides sushi, I also love the clam udon! The broth is delicious! Perfect for a cold day. Also, the tempura is really good fresh. The batter is not too thick or heavy. From the times I've eaten here, I could tell they have a lot of regulars. Goes to show others love their food too!
