This 10 Star restaurant is amazing! Food is most creative and absolutely delicious. Service is amazing, the chef is personable and engaging. His gourmet talents are reflected in his menu offerings. This is California’s hidden golden gem in the old gold rush foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. A must go dining experience.

Amazing 3 course dinner here. The filet mignon was like no other, the flank steak was amazing. Appetizers, cocktails, outstanding. Highly recommend.

We stopped by Amador County’s Shenandoah Valley to pick up our wines and were delighted to stumble upon The Taste — such a wonderful surprise!
Chef Micha welcomed us with warmth and shared locally foraged end-of-season boletes — firm, rich with umami, and absolutely unforgettable.
The venison, perfectly cooked and paired with chanterelles, was autumn on a plate.
And the fig cream pie — with silky vanilla pudding, fresh figs, candied pecans, and fig purée — was the perfect sweet finale. Every detail reflected care, creativity, and the beauty of the season.

This really is a treasure. These guys are amazing. They’ve put their heart and soul into their restaurant and their boutique hotel and it shines coming from Marin County. It’s well worth the drive. It’s an amazing experience in this quaint little town. such a classic act such wonderful people who create a real feeling of community I mean the kind we total strangers become friends.

The food and service were excellent, not sure I will be going back though. I find it VERY unfortunate and down-right shitty that the owner's don't even pay the workers creating these artistic dishes even close to what McDonald's workers are making. That's right, they pay their workers minimum wage and it's not sitting well with me being they are the most expensive restaurant in the region. DO BETTER!

From the moment we were seated at this gem nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Plymouth, every detail felt elevated—without losing its warm, inviting charm.
Six of us gathered for lunch, and between conversations and laughter, our table was graced with a parade of standout dishes:
• Caesar Salad: Crisp, fresh, and perfectly balanced—classic yet refined.
• Corn Soup: Velvety and comforting, it tasted of sunshine and summer, a true testament to seasonal ingredients.
• Burger: Juicy, flavorful, and expertly cooked; a hearty delight that surprised with its finesse.
• Truffle Fries: Irresistibly crispy with just the right hint of truffle—decadent but not overpowering.
• Melon Salad: Light and refreshing, a delightful palate cleanser with bright, fresh flavors.
• Gnocchi: Pillowy and tender with a quick pan fry, coated in a luscious sauce—comfort in every bite.
Every dish was executed with precision, showcasing creativity while honoring each ingredient’s integrity.
Service was equally impressive—friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring without ever being intrusive. It perfectly complemented the food and the restaurant’s artisanal atmosphere.
Overall, our visit to Taste Restaurant & Wine Bar felt effortlessly special—a rare gem that blends casual fine dining, locally sourced produce, and an exceptional wine list into a memorable experience. Whether you’re locals or passing through on Highway 49, this place is a must.

We had dinner at Taste after it was recommended by Tracey at Rest the hotel we were staying at. We had the Taste Summer Truffle Pasta. It is an amazing dish with a light pasta, mushrooms, fresh corn, lightly seasoned with fresh herbs and Parmesan. It was amazing. Pared with Sobon Rose. It was a great meal with with great service!!!

Food was mediocre. I don't mind paying top dollar for delicious food, but this was wild.
My cocktail and the corn soup were very good, but the rest of the meal was just plain bad.
The watermelon tomato salad was really just watermelon and heirloom tomato. The sauce was like a flavorless thin tomato soup sitting that the bottom of the bowl being watered down by the melon. It had some crunchy prosciutto and cilantro, but really, you're just eating a bowl of pricey fruit.
The duck was over cooked, but the fat wasn't rendered. Weird. Perhaps cooked slow and low. The wild rice that came with it was undercooked and soaked in sweet blueberry sauce. It came with a clump of water wet shredded lettuce that was badly bruised.
The filet mignon was cooked correctly and in a bit of good savory sauce, but it came with tomato slices and raw- couldn't stick a fork in them- potatoes on top of chimichurri. Strange.
The savory desert was brie with baguette toast on top of a very sweet custard like lemon sauce. I never thought I'd have lemon custard with brie and toast, but here we are.
My point is: if you know good, up-scale food or you yourself are a cook, skip this place.

Overpriced for the quality- the filet was not prime grade, covered in too much sauce, and was chewy. Service was slow though restaurant did not seem overly busy.
