I absolutely love dining at Smoking J's. Been here a few times as their meats are always flavourful and tender. We've had the 3x3 Combo Platter, The Smoking J Sandwich and Cali J-Rito. The staff are always friendly and welcoming as well.

One of my favorite bbq places in san deigo and I'm from Texas and they have really good everything 😋 every once in a blue moon you'll get some overcooked brisket but 90% they are spot on and Great sides and nice staff.
The real hidden secret here is the pork belly 😋 😉

Atmosphere- very cute, you go in and order them take your number outside. The area is a downtown feel on a cute street. Service - the lady that took my order was really nice. The heavier blonde lady is a bit on the rushed and wild even though it wasn't busy. She forgot to give me my soda which I paid for and never got when I grabbed my order. Food- got the 3x3 with the super side which means bigger beans and Mac without the coleslaw....so idk what bigger is but if their smaller on a regular order that's really small. The beans were very bbq sauce tasting, which I'm personally not a fan of. It's like your eating beans in a bbq sauce it's too much sweetened tangy bbq sauce flavor. The Mac was not good, to the point that my 2 son's that love Mac didn't eat it, it ended up in the trash. The pulled pork was dry, the chicken was ok, and the brisket was good. We also got Cajun fries, they were fine. I would go back just for the brisket, maybe a side of regular fries. We don't live in the area so we with go back just for this place. Price was reasonable.
