Food: first class bbq and ice cold beer on tap. Reasonably priced.Service: counter service could be a bit more efficient but the staff were helpful and courteous.Atmosphere: very casual setting right on the street with plenty of parking. Clean throughout.

This is our Go to place for deliciouse BBQ. Tucked away in old Poway. This little BBQ place is cranking with customers. This visit we got the pulled pork, tritip, burnt ends, Mac and cheese and cold claw. It's very tasty. I will be back.

We came here for the first time with other family who have been here before, and recommended we try SJ’s. We had a party of 14, so we were given one of their sectioned outdoor patio dining areas (four 4-person tables). We bought enough food for half our group. We got the following: 1 lb. of Brisket, 1 lb. of Pulled Pork, a Rack of Ribs (substituted for 1 whole chicken for an extra $14.50), 16oz. each of Bean Crack, Mac n' Cheese, Cole Slaw, Pickles and fermented onions, 12 slices (upgraded from 6 slices) of Wonder bread, and a pint of their BBQ Sauce. We also ordered their wings (6 w/ Cajun dry rub), 1/2 lb hot links x2, 2 slices of pork belly, 3 orders of cornbread, and 2 orders of their Cajun fries. Service was excellent! The staff cleaned our tables prior to our party’s arrival, they also checked on us often, and bused all our dirty dishes & cups afterwards. Favs: Brisket, pork belly, rack of ribs, pulled pork, Cajun fries, and cornbread. Not-so-favs: self-service iced water on their counter ran out often and it was far from cold. Single unisex restroom out back was often in-use w/ someone usually waiting when you tried to use it. Other than that, the food, service, serving portions, & prices were all very good! We live in Chula Vista so our chances of returning to Poway aren’t high unless we’re already in the area. But they have a location in the Gaslamp area of San Diego which is much closer to us. We have nothing but great things to say about SJ’s BBQ!

Outside seating only, so keep that in mind if it's raining. Dogs are welcome! Staff and service was warm and friendly.Mac and cheese was an A+. The meat was tasty, but each plate we tried had some dry pieces. Corn bread comes as a large brick but tastes dry.Parking is the street and parking lot.Definitely going to come back to try more.

I've been coming here for a bit, the Cali-J-Rito and a few pieces of pork belly are my go to. But I know they've got breakfast too and ive been itchin to try it.I called in to see what time breakfast is stopped at on Sundays (1pm) and knew I wouldnt make the drive in time. I asked if they could make it in advance and I could pick it up about 15 minutes or so after the deadline. They abliged and I half expected a cold soggy burrito when I got there since I turned out to be 30 minutes past breakfast cuttoff. To my suprise it was made on the spot and damn was it good. Juicy brisket with a nice salty bark, gooey savory cheese, and over easy eggs (never had non scrambled eggs in a burrito before but ouwee do I know now) with a coffee vanilla soda on the side to top it all off.I want to thank the team and owners for providing a spot that makes it easy to kick off the Sunday right. Im greatful for ya'll and the work you do.Keep it up, wish you all the best.

Absolutely delicious! We came on a Friday for an early dinner and it wasn’t busy at all. You order inside then sit outside. Since we were visiting, we ordered a little bit of everything. All the food was delicious and cooked well. I got the wings, I’d maybe suggest sauce on the side as they had a little too much for my opinion. Out of everything the ribs were our favorite and the hot link was our least favorite. The Mac n cheese was a hit for my kids. If you’re getting fries, make sure to get the Cajun fries, the seasoning was perfect. There is no kids menu, so make sure there’s something your kids will eat before you come.

Tried the location in Old Town Poway for a family birthday celebration. Excellent BBQ. The weekend brunch Belly-Up Burrito--filled with pork belly, hash browns, over easy egg, carmelized onions, white cheddar and slaw sauce is outstanding!
