Came for the live band for Motown / R&B on a Saturday night with my reservation (recommended for outside seating to hear and see the band) for a party of one at 8pm. I arrived on time on a rainy evening. I was expecting to be sat to a table but to a lonely bar (not used to serve drinks). My back was to the band. I didn't mind not seeing the activities but turned around on occasions. I waited to be attended to as the staff passed me by numerous times not noticing me. I asked a staffer when will someone tend to me and mentioned my 15min wait at the outside bar. She seemed surprised and asked if the host at the entrance sent me to the outside bar. I replied, “Yes, this is where I was escorted.” She left to check with the host and returned and dutifully asked for my order. From there, she was attentive to me while making me feel relaxed. Food was tasty, prime rib (chef's kiss). The band had a playlist like mine. So the crowd was into that vibe. Overall, the evening could have been disastrous. My staffer/server save the night with her attentiveness. The live music and atmosphere was my dessert for the night. I'd return and assure to be attended to from my arrival.
We order clam chowder and the soup was not hot, my wife's dinner was good I believe it was called a flat steak very tasty I had a hamburger it was alright. The server was ok she was nice but had to ask 3 times for silverware she keep forgetting to get it . The last thing I am going to say is the chairs in the patio are very uncomfortable they have a large rim around the front of the chair and it just digs into your leg that is just a personal opinion

I would actually give tartan 3 1/2 Stars overall if it was offered. The reason I would do that is because the owners fail to offer any Hangar 24 or any other local breweries beer. In this day and age of local craft beers this is simply unacceptable. A historical and I'll say legendary gastro pub such as Tartan should proudly represent some locally fermented drafts! I remember the previous owner used to at least offer Betty IPA on the menu.

Update
Been visiting this place for years but today the service was horrible.
The only dish Tamara serves is aggrevation. She will serve you by passing by while you think you are talking to her, but she is long gone. Won't offer any opinion on her attitude.
Original four years ago.
place has been an icon for decads. The stakes they serve is rare find. The ambiance is warm and cozy. Twice a week, Thursday and Saturday nights with live music. You dance , eat and enjoy it all.
Leanne who took care of us, offered us the details on the menu and was a delight. The staff who were serving other tables displayed such high enthusiasm, and courtesy unseen elsewhere.
The food and service here is truly exceptional. You will escape your norm and experience a refreshing one.

The food and service are very good. The prices are a little high. $12.00 for a split of Clhampagne is ridiculous!
A really cozy old-fashioned place in downtown Redlands. A great place to linger and chat. Service was great. We all enjoyed our food.

Restaurantji Recommends
We had an early reservation, 4:30. We were seated promptly. The hostess was very pleasant. It was pretty empty for a Friday afternoon. As we were finishing up our meals, the crowd started coming in. Then it started getting a bit noisy. Our meals were great. We recommend the Tartan for a great meal. Ou r server Matt was great.
Great service little bit slow on this particular night but very apologetic very concerned to make sure that I had a really good time and that I was properly taken care of atmosphere was fabulous the food is always great
Staff was very attentive. Band was amazing! I only had a salad so there's not a lot to compare.
Great service. Food was excellent. Not fancy. Very loud, and the place is a little shabby...”Comfortable”...but clean and welcoming. Reminds me of places my dad always loved...You know, “where everybody knows your name”...LOL. Both my friend and I had the NY strip with peppercorn sauce. It was delicious, although the steak was a little tough (I know to keep prices reasonable, restaurants are often using lower quality meat.). Martinis were cold and well-made. We shared the crème brulee for dessert...it was wonderful. I highly recommend this bar/restaurant.
I love going here and so does my parents when they come visit. Annie is the best and sweetest server, especially being super polite to my elderly father that can't hear that well. Always a wonderful time and the band that evening was great! We got to dance a little bit! Yay!
