I was charged for a to-go order (made through their own website, not a 3rd party) while the restaurant had closed with no communication/updates to hours. They have not responded to phone calls or emails. I like their food, but taking money for food I never got and then refusing to communicate is not okay.
Business closed and still took my online order. Now I need to get a refund, nobody picks up the phone. Very annoying. Why keep the online ordering? No warning or anything.
Boss is very handsome, delicious.
Been coming here every Friday for over a year, my partner has been coming even longer. The new ownership has taken the restaurant in a sad direction. No longer do we feel welcomed and appreciated, we are also no longer recognized as ‘regulars’. We hated when they removed the menus and now have scan to order stickers.. They’ve removed items from the lunch menu recently. This just isn’t the friendly place it used to be. Sadly won’t be our regular Friday lunch anymore
* Edit: It’s been three years since my last review, and sadly, the food has shifted toward a more Americanized style. Many dishes are now slightly sweet, the water-boiled beef is overly starchy, and the bold Sichuan pepper flavors have faded. Disappointing to see it lose the authenticity that once made it my favorite.
I've passed by this place many many times driving along El Camino but since parking didn't seem easy I never went, plus our family always preferred eating in downtown Redwood City but WHAT a mistake we've been making!!! If you want authentic Sichuan and northern Chinese fare, this is THE BEST place in Redwood City. My husband was skeptical at first when I told him I wanted to try this place tonight, he thought we were going to have another night of American Chinese food (nothing wrong with that), but he literally couldn't stop raving about how amazing everything tasted once we dug our chopsticks in. All the spicey dishes we ordered were the perfect level of numbing tingly goodness married with just the right amount of heat. The ma po tofu was divine! The moment I had the first bite I immediately thought to myself (YES, this is how it's supposed to taste), the redwood bistro specialty noodles were also uniquely flavourful packed with spices and various groceries. Is this as good as some of the restaurants I've been to in Sichuan? Probably not. But this is the best place I've had in the Penninsula. We used to trek out to Oakland for our monthly kick of Sichuan food but all this time we only had to drive 10 minutes to this place. I'm So so glad we finally came here tonight. We are definitely becoming weekly regulars.
I wish I had photos to upload but eating everything happened so fast. I also wish I had some baijiu to go with it <3
Unassuming authentic neighborhood Chinese restaurant with affordable pricing and large portion- perfect for week day quick lunch and dinner!
The yummiest dumplings!
The attitude of waitress and boss are VERY VERY BAD!!!!!
No serve sometimes even waits for a long time!!!
Not even answer when ask for something!!!
Especially for Chinese customers!!!
After lunch there, the feeling is Really Really BAD!!!
Met 2-3 times get yelled by the boss or waitress!!!!
I never met those situations before. Feel sick at all!!!!
First time. Ordered delivery.
This food was sooooo dang good and clearly freshly made. (The egg element in certain dishes was done to perfection). I ordered a variety of dishes and all of them blew me away. Will be my new go to spot!!
I love the food from this place. The best thing is the dry spicy chicken. I honestly used to get it every week, it is so good. Very spicy though, watch out. My wife likes the mushu pork.
I ordered delivery, and I was disappointed.
Hot and Sour soup was neither.
Fried rice looked like steamed rice mixed with some vegetables.
While a portion of mixed vegetables was generous, it tasted bland.
The biggest disappointment was pork belly. It was a tiny portion of sad-looking pale pork. There was nothing crispy or delicious about it.
This is an American Chinese restaurant. The price is decent but the taste is so so
Wow, the chicken wings were amazing! Crispy and tender.
Enjoyed all the food we got.
Service was helpful in that direct brusque way. Old school atmosphere.
The food in this restaurant is not only delicious, but the service is also excellent. It is very suitable for friends gatherings or family dinners.
Average but good value about sums it up. The food is nothing special and feels like a very Americanized menu. The quality of food is about Panda Express but with slightly more flavor. The pricing and portion is great so that’s why I bumped it up to 4 stars.
