Black star BBQ sure does have Point Richmond SPOILED !!! I went in hearing that the food was good but I’ll tell you what them Cowboy beans with a slice of Cornbread so delicious so perfect I thought I was back in Texas, then the spicy sausage with mac & cheese and potato salad did not disappoint!!! All in all I was very good food if you want a place with a great vibe and a chef that great you and serves you with a smile this is the place! Highly recommended!!!

What a magical little location. I've lived in the bay my whole life and had no clue this area existed. The highlights for me are how unique and eclectic the space is, how breathtaking the view is and how awesome it is to get to experience live music while you eat. Also they have a bunch of vegetarian friendly options which is unusual at a BBQ spot. It's also all outdoor seating so it's been great to go during Covid. Dishes I recommend:-The portobello burger: It was juicy, the sauce was amazing and it had plenty of yummy melted cheese-The brisket: (I didn't try it but my dad ordered it and raves about it)-The vegetarian platter: it was a huge portion and me and my friend shared it and still had food left over (The only reason I didn't give this spot a higher rating is because we found a huge hair in our sample platter and it killed the vibe. I know these things happen but it was off putting and we weren't able to finish our meal)

Wow, what a funky, cool place this is. Glad I discovered it before it closes.Good food and drink, live music, burning ? man art ? and a lovely spot on the bay at point San Pablo. We spent the whole afternoon here recently, which is really easy to do with all they offer. This is a great spot for a party or gathering. Plenty of room and parking and definitely off the beaten path. Can't imagine what will become of this place after the restaurant closes ?.Love to go back at some point, will see?

Took this place for granted and didn't check it out until this past weekend, the week before their closing date. Because of this, I think there may have been more customers than usual. I did overhear a lot of people saying that it was their first time there, and the employees didn't seem very thrilled to be working that day.Because I had to park in the overflow lot, it was a short and beautiful stroll along an old railroad track towards the BBQ. Black Star has a unique waterfront location with a lot of quirky decorations and live music. I'm not well versed on BBQ, but I thought the food was pretty good even though I'm generally not a fan of greasy/oily food. While the food wasn't mind-blowing for me, Black Star Pirate BBQ has done a fantastic job of creating a special, eccentric foodservice establishment that is just so hard to find nowadays! Sad to see that Black Star has to vacate this place, but I'm hoping they'll find an equally lovely place to move to.

Out in middle of no where. Opens at 11 and the line gets long. The portobello was really good. Beans and greens tasty too.Sadly this place will close at end of November

An awesome destination on a motorcycle trip. The boys and I rode our bikes out there and had a blast. It's in the marina at Point San Pablo Harbor, a bit of a jaunt but amazing views from that side of the bay. Plenty to see, explore and a trippy place stretch your legs. Lot's of art installations around the grounds. The outside dining area is filled with pirate and nautical "treasures" while a live band played on a little stage nearby while we ate. The BBQ is fair. I ordered the 2 meats + 3 sides. I was not stoked that they dumped a load of bbq sauce on all the meats, I'd rather've had it on the side, the sauce was tasty but, My meat-My choice! The bbq itself did not blow my hair back. It was a little bland, not much smoke and the ribs seemed a little undercooked (not raw just not quite ready) The prices are a bit steep but I as expected given the ambiance and high overhead of BBQ. I recommend this joint if you are up for an adventure, into pirate culture, don't consider yourself a BBQ purist and maybe show of some of Northern Californias weirdo culture to out-of-towners. Good times. Food - 3 Service - 5 Atmosphere - 5

Extra star for live music and all the Burning Man art nearby. Kudos for all the veggie options for a BBQ place, unfortunately the veggie platter was room temperature. It wouldn't be hard to microwave the food to give the illusion of freshness. A friend said the Potebello on cheese grits was good, so order that if vegetarian. Honestly, it is strange and uncomfortable for a 1st time visitor to have to order the food when you walk in the door, and you can't even see the menu very well while waiting in line. Get there early on weekends because the line to order/walk in the door can have 30 people in it. Also it is dog friendly. Over all good ambiance and worth a trip, but the cold food was a disappointment.

This place is worth traveling to from Brentwood. The brisket was so moist and the sides are very good. My wife and our two kids really enjoy stopping here for the food and the atmosphere. The drive is a bit sketchy so use patience when driving it's narrow road. Both times we have been here there has been live music around noon. Perfect for a craft beer and an appetizer before lunch. I don't appreciate the tight parking but that is minor. Dogs are welcome.

Didn't think places like this still existed in the Bay Area... a throwback to the 1970s (in a good way) Brisket and burnt ends on the dry side, but solid thumbs up on the pork spare ribs. Brussel sprouts, spicy potato salad, cole slaw, and beer selection were worthy of the drive on their own. For those that appreciate outdoor dining, this location along the Bay is worthy of Bay Area Backroads.

I ordered ribs, brisket and it came with my choice of sides; mushrooms, cole slaw and beans. It was delivered on a cafeteria type tray. It looked spectacular. One eats with their eyes first and I loved it before I even took a bite. I started with the ribs. They were not trimmed of excess fat. The rib had a crisp crust of seasoning and fat. I am not even mad. I took a bite and out oozed some of some of the most heavenly pork fat that has ever existed to mankind. WoW!. They were fall off the bone and I tasted a real pork flavor. I wonder if this was some heritage breed of pork. The brisket was very tender with deep beef flavor. It was seasoned very well and was very enjoyable. These meats were served with a generic bbq sauce but it was not needed. The sides were hitting on all garlic cylinders. I love mushrooms and these were rich and full of garlic. The assortment of beans was tender, rich and satisfying. Again, a garlic theme was present. Maybe I had achieved garlic overload but the Cole slaw may have had a kiss of the stinking rose. Overall Black Star Pirate BBQ is a destination restaurant. Be prepared for a drive and rewarded with a fun dining experience.

Not a bad place to spend an afternoon. We made the trek out here on a recommendation, and enjoyed the food. 3 meat and 3 side combo and a few drinks fed 2adults and a teenager, but might have been more suited to just 2 adults. Burnt tips were excellent. It seemed a bit light on the pirate theme, but we still had fun.Dog friendly with outdoor seating.

It's an adventure to get here but well worth it imo. Got food to go cuz we didn't realize how long it would take us to get there but we needed to take it home to let others know about this place anyway. One request...can you do a smoked tofu? I know all your sides are vegetarian but I feel like your crew would do an amazing smoked tofu entree!

Great location, terrific ambiance/ vibe with good music, excellent views of the nay, and good food. Service is outstanding; although it's a bit of the laid back traditional bbq flow of order, then grab a seat style that might grate on the "bow and scrape" crowd. Only downside was the tri tip was sold out, so get here early if you're looking for the tri tip.

You can easily split a 2, 3, or 4 meat plate between as many people and just add a side or two and dessert. Wonderful decor, nice little adventure drive to get there, way off the beaten path. Great waterfront view. Cool art around. Live music. Can’t beat a couple hours spent here.
