Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood Restaurant appeared to be an authentic Cantonese restaurant on the internet. I had dinner there on a Friday evening. I ordered their deep fried baby pigeon which was a bit too salty yet still acceptable. I then ordered their steamed pork patty. Steamed pork patty is a very traditional Cantonese dish. However, their “chef” most likely was not an even a Cantonese. It was more like a steamed shredded pork. I asked the waitress if she was a Cantonese. She confirmed she was. I then asked her to tell me if the dish looked like steamed pork patty at all. She tried to give me excuses… Overall, Xiang Ji is a below average level restaurant. I crossed it out from my dining list.

Don't be put off by the plain exterior or the low ratings. When you see many elderly people at a restaurant, you can bet the flavor is authentic and exceptional. Every time I've come, the Sweet and Sour Fried Egg with Shredded Vegetables is a must on the table; something so simple, yet it leaves such a lasting impression. It can get busy in the evenings, but I've never had to wait long or have difficulty securing a table. This restaurant also has the option for you to bring your own seafood (lobster, fish, crab, etc), you choose a flavor/ style and they'll make it for you. As of August 2024 it was $10/pound for labor, which compared to other restaurants is a very good deal and price. The owners are also here, one in the kitchen and one out serving, so you can count on the flavor and service being top notch.
