Food wasn't that great especially for the price. Street tacos (taco truck) or just any local taqueria is better then the tacos I got here the other day, at least I can't say I've never tried this place but probably won't ever go back!

Debuted in 2015 by Patricio Wise and Cinthia Martinez Sacramento’s most acclaimed Mexican eatery is tucked away in a Roseville Strip-mall, the corner slot adjacent a church continuing to draw Michelin Bib Gourmand acclaim each year since the guide expanded past Napa Valley. Unassuming from the outside, an outdoor patio giving way to booths and tables stretched along the open kitchen, light music plays while guests peruse a menu of Tacos and Burritos rooted in tradition but unafraid to have fun. Natives of Monterrey, but not afraid to riff on the Capitol’s “farm to fork" ethos by calling their concept "Farm to Tacos," all tables begin with complimentary housemade Chips alongside four Salsas ranging from mild green to smoky Peanut and fiery Habanero Carrot. Proud of their process, educated servers discussing everything from nixtamalization to the slow-cooked Proteins, options run the gamut from Esquites done the right way to Birria de Res complete with a sidecar of Consommé. Priced $6 to $9 per Taco, pricey but justified by the quality of each bite, Chicken Mole skips sweetness in favor of earthy aromatics complimented by Crema while Fried Chicken and the signature “Nixtaco Combination” are busy but tasty while nearly overwhelming the faultless Handmade Tortillas. Faced with tough decisions for Dessert, though staff suggests Flan over Churros, a $10 square arrives oversized and soaked with Caramel atop density and creaminess that features no air pockets but rather a texture akin to French Crème Caramel but better.

Lovely experience — calm, comfortable, and very well organized.

Nixtaco is a modern spin on tacos with quality ingredients and bold flavors. Every time I'm in the area, I make sure to stop by. Their handmade corn tortillas are fluffy and thick enough to hold all the toppings, but pliable and light.

Octopus 5/5*
The best out of all the tacos we tried over the years. The octopus was super tender and perfectly paired with the peanut chipotle sauce. They don't skimp on the octopus and you get nice meaty chunks as well as the charred tentacles. The serrano infused butter added richness, but also has some serious kick to it! This taco was just perfection in both textures and flavors.

Pork Belly 5/5*
Wow! That glazed pork belly slab is good enough to be its own dish. It was fork tender, juicy, with an even ratio of meat to fat. The refried beans tasted slightly sweet from the glaze, almost like a mole sauce. The flavors were so well balanced.. sweet and savory.

Nixtaco Combination 4/5*
The taco was loaded with a mound of plump shrimp and chicharrón. The sprouts added a nice refreshing taste to all that savoriness. Although tasty, it's really messy and saucy. I also thought the sesame seed oil was too much and made the taco really greasy.

Pollo en Mole 3/5*
Just what the name says. Compared to the others, it needed something extra, veggies or something to balance out the rich mole sauce and soft chicken texture.

Spicy Shrimp 2/5*
Wasn't very spicy and too plain. 4 shrimps with grilled cheese was underwhelming. You could barely taste the caramelized onion.

Although pricey, the octopus and pork belly tacos are worth every penny. They combination of textures and flavors are on point and will leave you satisfied. Not to mention the complimentary chips with four different type of salsas. Every salsa was delicious in its own, my favorite being the chunky salsa verde.

After spending a lot of time in Tucson, AZ, I became addicted to mole. For the last 10 years I've been living in the Bay Area, and I spent time searching throughout it to find a place that serves good mole (including San Jose!). I found one place that sold it, but it was an expensive fine dining type of mole wholly unlike the authentic version. This was ok, because my roommate (who is from Mexico) would semi frequently make massive amounts of chicken mole. I essentially gave up the search and assumed that mole is just fundamentally unpopular in America. Thankfully Nixtaco has disproven this, they make some pretty damn good mole.

It was a nice establishment with attentive service although I'm not sure I liked the food style. The food quality and taste was actually good but I guess I was looking for the traditional Mexican food I'm used to. This was a completely different taste albeit very good. My wife loved her dish and she said it reminded her of the taste of Yucatan. She's Mexican and knows many of the different food regions of Mexico. To me it was a trendy restaurant with a different vibe. It definitely seems very popular.

Congratulations to the Nixtaco Chef! This is not your average Mexican cuisine. The food has an elevated twist that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm not sure why this is considered Mexican food. The seasoning on the meats and shrimp was nothing like any Mexican flavors I've experienced. The only good thing was the guacamole. Additionally, they don't provide ice for the room temperature water they bring you. Probably a place I will never go back to.

Nixtaco is hands down my new favorite place to eat. The staff was so warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in, and the tacos were the best I’ve had in the area — and so fast! Even the little details, like the bathroom soap, stood out. Everything about this place was incredible. Honestly, I feel like they’re undercharging for the quality. I left saying out loud, ‘Wow, what a great experience!
