Some of the best food you can get. Owners are so incredibly nice as well. Please do check them out and support them. My friend and I visited last night and got the meat sampler. Amazing! You pick up the chicken and it slides off the bone. Plus there’s a lot of veggie options. It came with a cabbage dish with potatoes and it was incredible

We ordered meat tibsi, it was bad rotten and we got sick from it. They still charged us full price, they never asked us if we want to change another one. The meat was green and smelly. Not only that, The customer service is very bad and all they care are the money. Customers are not the priority. They are racist and disrespectful very uncomfortable to eat there. We do not recommend this restaurant at all.

Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant gave me one of the most authentic cultural dining experiences I’ve had in Sacramento. The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting, with warm colors and a welcoming staff that made me feel right at home. I ordered a vegetarian sampler platter, and it came with injera bread and an array of stews and lentil dishes that were bursting with flavor. The injera was soft and slightly tangy, perfect for scooping up the rich, spiced sauces. Each bite was vibrant and unique, with layers of spice that were complex without being overwhelming. Sharing food communally off one platter made the meal even more special - it felt social, traditional, and deeply satisfying. The staff were kind and happy to explain the dishes, which made me appreciate the experience even more. Everything felt genuine and lovingly prepared, and it was clear that they take pride in representing Ethiopian cuisine. The meal was filling but not heavy, and the spices left me feeling energized instead of weighed down. It was an experience that was as much about culture as it was about food, and I can’t wait to go back.

We were waited on by a super friendly man named Manny. The place was not busy and service was prompt. Got the vegan combo with tofu tibs and probably could have been enough food for four! You will have leftovers! The food was so tasty! Love this place!
Doro wot and vegetarian combo are good
If you order the vegetarian combo I would recommend asking replacing the green and yellow l lentils for the red lentil (miser), it’s more flavorful.
Very nice and well informed server
Ordered 3 mains for 2 people (Veg combo and two doro wot) which we always do at ethiopian restaurants

My friend and I visited Abyssinia because I was trying look for a restaurant and a cuisine I never had before (African in general). We took our chance there, and we had a great time! The staff were wholesome and kind, the aesthetic of the interior looked welcoming and warm, and the food was delicious! I had a tofu dish with a lot of spices, and it tasted great. Also was cool that instead of utensils, you eat the dish with flatbread as if said bread is a spoon (which is what I learned from the waitress). I seriously want to go back there someday to eat and learn more Ethiopian food. Go there if you never had any African food before; you won’t be disappointed.
Great and authentic Ethiopian food! If you want to try something different, the food is as rich as the country it originates from.
If you want spice or flavors, these dishes are for you. If you want something different, I would recommend this place. Also, it's incredibly healthy food for those who are concerned.
And if you are a spiciness fan, you'll definitely love Ethiopian food...if you can handle the challenge of the spice.
The restaurant is in a quiet location and is a great place to take your friends and have wonderful time. It is a family run and owned restaurant, and they are lovely people! I would definitely recommend (and go again).
