Unfortunately this location is hit or miss. Today the burnt ends were burned and dried out. Portion of tri tip was disappointing. The garlic fries were the shining star for this visit.

The service is always good, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is laid back.

First, let me state clearly: Romero, the bartender, is exceptional, and none of what follows reflects negatively on him or his service in any way.

On November 24, I had a deeply troubling and offensive experience at the Buckhorn location on Freeport in Land Park. One of the managers, Kaitlyn, repeatedly shouted the word “jiggers” loudly across the restaurant, intentionally using a term that closely resembles a well-known racial slur. She even joked openly that it “sounded like another word,” making it clear that she knew exactly what she was implying and attempting to provoke.

Another employee voiced discomfort and told her it wasn’t appropriate. Kaitlyn simply laughed it off and continued. When I spoke up and told her directly that it wasn’t acceptable and that she knew what she was doing, she walked over and responded with condescending, dismissive behavior — offering no apology, only repeating “absolutely” in a patronizing tone.

I reported the incident to corporate. A manager named Jared reached out to me afterward, and his tone suggested he was more concerned about potential negative publicity than actually addressing the harmful incident itself. He stated he would follow up this week, yet I have heard nothing since — which makes it clear that Buckhorn’s leadership is not treating this matter seriously.

The message I’ve been given is that Buckhorn management is comfortable allowing racially suggestive language and unprofessional conduct from their leadership staff. In today’s climate, it is both heartbreaking and unacceptable that such behavior is brushed aside rather than corrected.

I have been a loyal customer and regular patron of this Buckhorn location for a long time. After this experience, I don’t feel comfortable returning — and I cannot in good conscience recommend others support an establishment that fails to adequately train or discipline its management. Until Buckhorn addresses this issue properly and publicly, consider this location on the Blackout List.

The meat is amazing but I was shocked at the size of the side veggies . The frying pan in their picture online must be 4” around.

I've come to this location several times over the past 8 months and without fail, my tri tip is over cooked. I've even gotten my initial meal replaced with even more overcooked tri tip. I've been patient before, but I'm kinda over it. I'll be going to literally any other location besides this one from now on because it's only been a problem here.

I don't spend $20+ on overcooked meat. What's the point in asking me how I like it cooked (medium rare) only to consistently deliver the opposite? Today, I came in for my takeaway order of tri tip bites. I asked for them medium rare, red meat. Got grey/slightest hint of pink instead.

We tried Buckhorn BBQ this weekend at an event at the Heringer winery.

I’m not 100% sure of the affiliation between the store front and the food truck as it’s a pretty basic menu.

I opted for the Tri Tip. My wife opted for the chicken sandwich. I’ll try presentation wise, it looked very plain. It was literally just shaved tri tip and carmelized onions. No pickles or jalepenos or anything else to give mix up the texture. While the meat itself was flavorful and, it was a salt bomb and it was borderline inedible The caramelized onions were really flavorful though. And the bun was nice and fresh.

The charbroiled sandwich was really good. It had a nice flavor and it was juicy and not dry. The tomato and lettuce are kind of an afterthought and the lettuce ended up getting steamed. Again, some pickles or acidity would have gone a long way. Or even chipotle mayo or something else to balance it. It was a nice portion size though and the wife really enjoyed it.

Fries were super basic and frozen. If you only have like 4 menu items, you’d think you could make some fresh fries?

The sauce selection was skimpy. Two BBQ sauces and horseradish. One of the BBQs was overly sweet. The other was decent.

All in all, it was a filling meal. The Tri Tip really left something to be desired though. You have another BBQ competitor (Brody’s) near the winery whose Tri Tip is really really good. Something to consider.

Service was friendly, so that bumped up the score as well.

The food was excellent, although the pricing was more than expected for the sides. You have to go up to the counter to order, which was quite difficult for a table of disabled seniors. Would suggest they have staff that can bring the ordering pad over to the table for special circumstances. Food came fast and was sooo tasty!!!
