I was at the opening of JRs restaurant years back, and have gone multible times since then. My Daughter was getting married and I thought it would be great to hire them to cater the event. We spoke to JR and he talked us in to having servers at the event. As the night went on there was over 15 people that did not show up so there was a lot of food left over. The servers, JR niece! Said they were getting ready to leave and we asked about the left over food and they said we can't leave it because of laws. No one at the party had ever experienced this at events. We called multible big catering company's and they all said if you have coolers or refrigerator to keep it safe we wrap it up, it yours you bought it!. The bartender who does events during the week talked to them and they told her to leave them alone she's just a bartender. They were also rude to the guest when asked about it. I called JR and he was very unhelpful and his response was whats the problem the guest ate! I asked what's the difference if you would have dropped it off we would have had all the food and his response was that's how we do it. We will never go or recommend this company to anyone. One more thing, we contacted the health department and there is no law on this, that was a flat out LIE!!
Texas Style Dry Q; Delicious; No Sauce needed, but they have it for those who want it. I generally do not, but the spicy sauce is pretty good. As with all GOOD Q... Their product will be a little different each time. In the end it is all tasty.... I usually get Beef Ribs 'cause I like to gnaw me some bones. Brisket is good too. The poor reviews you may see???? They just don't understand the concept of authentic Q !
JR's is a great BBQ joint. It is TEXAS BBQ, and that is important in understanding what his specialty is. Texas bbq is brisket first and foremost. Sure, there may be pulled pork or ribs on the menu, but you want brisket. Good food at good prices. If it is ribs you are craving, I would recommend Sandra Dee's, closer to downtown. And don't forget the jailhouse chili!!!
Smoked all night just for you! Truly fall apart brisket with the right Texas sauce! In Sacramento, CA! Tucked away in an industrial park in South Sacramento.
I had beef rib plate was ok but not worth 21.06 I paid for it and a large sweet tea. But overall a nice friendly place.
With GPS easy to find. Located in a warehouse it was large and decorated with Texas memorabilia. The meat melts in your mouth and the portions were large. Being from Texas I thought it was close to the real deal. The barbeque sauce makes or breaks the barbeque. I didn't care much for their saw but the meat made up for it.
JR’s Texas BBQ does a good meal. The facility is nothing to brag about but the food is worth a visit. Check ‘em out you will like the menu.
I bet you'll like it if your a fan of BBQ. Lot's of choices too choose from. Have fun looking at all the pictures hanging on the walls
I have been going to Otto Circle for 20 years and the brisket plate is always great. JR comes around says hello to all the customers, and tells you to clean your plate. The chili is delicious - a big chunk of brisket in a tasty chili sauce. I have never had the ribs, so I can't comment on them. Love the Brisklet.

Their brisket is delicious and full of flavor! You can get it by the pound or in a combo. Not too far off Hwy 99.
I have eaten here several times and the smoked mesquite BBQ taste has always been consistent and very enjoyable. I love their homemade sauces which compliment the meats they prepare. The location is off 47th Avenue in South Sacramento and is located in an industrial park area. Plenty of seating inside with a pool table to enjoy. Portions are good and the meats are the stars of the show. Really love the brisket and the ribs. The sides are average, like the beans and macaroni the best. The brisket sandwiches are also super good. Great place for lunch or dinner. I have had JR's cater twice for a party of 10 people, all my guests were impressed with taste of Texas mesquite BBQ and loved the experience. I have eaten at Dickey's, Texas West and Sandra Dees and JR's is still first on my list for BBQ. Recommend!
Recently ate at JR Texas BBQ. The restaurant is hidden in an industrial park. Off the beaten path but glad I went * All of the BBQ would have passed muster in Texas (I live in the Dallas area). Nice smoke on the brisket, beef and pork ribs. Great chew on the ribs (I hate mushy ribs) * Jail house chili was really good. As all good Texas chilis there were no beans. A lot of very tasty meat and a little spicy. Like it * Cornbread was a little dry so it perfect to dip in the bbq sauce. * The spicy bbq sauce has a good bite to it. Kinda spicy. Like it too * Not a lot of decor or cowboy music. A destination for food but not a lot of atmosphere * JR came over to our table. Nice guy All in all a very good experience.
Went here last night and got a full rack of baby back ribs, a side of mac n cheese and a side of coleslaw with garlic bread. Wow, could not have been more disappointed. The ribs were tough, the "sides" were in paper cups of about 4 ounces, and the "garlic bread" was a single piece of white bread(like Wonder bread) barely toasted, soggy and not even edible! This horrible meal was basically $30.00. Really pathetic. I couldn't even get my son, who loves ribs, to finish one of these ribs.
The BBQ Ribs are great. I have also had the brisket, which I loved also. JR, the owner is very personable and will remember you if you have eaten there before. It is a hole in the wall place but well worth it.
