As a Korean, I really can’t recommend this place. The food quality has declined significantly since last year, and I was genuinely surprised by how much worse everything tasted. The meat was extremely chewy, and several of the side dishes—like the kimchi and shredded radish—tasted as if they were past their prime. They also no longer offer items like edamame or garlic to roast when they were items on the digital menu.

I tried the new bulgogi fries, but unfortunately, they were disappointing as well. I had hoped this restaurant would be a good replacement after the fire at Blue House, but it seems that won’t be the case. Looks like we’ll be heading back to Oz instead.

The management's strategy is inadequate. During lunch, the staffing consists of merely two personnel, with one responsible for food preparation and the other handling orders and delivery. When confronted with a workload of over ten plus tables, each with four patrons, this resource allocation proves inefficient. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated occurrence, and I have observed no meaningful enhancements over time. It appears that management may be deliberately understaffing to accelerate customer turnover, potentially at the expense of service quality and supplementary orders. Furthermore, the policy restricting orders to three items per two people, with infrequent follow-ups, exacerbates the issue. I firmly believe this system is unfair to both customers and staff. To rectify this situation, management needs to reassess their approach or consider a change in leadership. Although I remain skeptical that GEN KBBQ will implement changes in response to this feedback, my intention is to inform potential patrons about what to expect. I feel a sense of sympathy for staff who had to deal with the suboptimal management and work more arduously than necessary.

I came in after work tonight to order food to go. No one was out front. Twice I look at the bartender and busses and neither time did they say anything to me nor get someone to help me. It was slow. There was no need for this. I will not be back.

Horrible customer service! There is no one managing the front, a crowd of people standing for half an hour waiting for a host to show up. Everyyyything takes forever!! No soap in men’s bathroom. Food just ok. Won’t visit again.

I came to Gen on a Saturday night of this week and my experience was some what okay, here is why:
Although, I could tell that the servers tried their best and were super kind, the amount of time between each rounds took too long. Our tables weren't bussed ONCE. We had to keep asking for a grill change and our order to be taken. I honestly think it wasn't the servers fault but the lack of staff. There was maximum of two servers on that busy night and like one busser. I think the management should consider the lack of understaffing and how it will impact a person's dining experience. Other than that, the host that day was nice and sat us down pretty quickly.

I’ve been to multiple Gen Kbbq (including this particular location before) and the experience at the others was not nearly has abhorrent. Dinner service on a sunday night was horrible, waited 10-15 mins to get a table which wasn’t bad for 8 o’clock. We were sat and we did not receive our first plate of food until about 25 minutes into the service, after having our grill needed to be relit a multiple times. Our first order only came with half of our meat that we ordered and it took another 15 mins to get our replacement meats and placed another order of rice (this fact is crutial to later in the story). We waited another 40 minutes to be able to do our second order in which our rice still had yet to arrive. We got our second order of meat in somewhat of a timely manner, but alas there was still no rice to be seen. Other tables were being brought rice during this time keep in mind. We overheard our server go to one of their breaks in which someone else took over the rest of their tables, but I guess not ours? We have been sitting for 40+ minutes waiting to be checked on to this moment and our experience honestly was ruined (Which is a shame because it was a birthday related trip that we went out of our way to come here). Will not be coming back to this location, and I would advise you to do the same. The food is good when it gets brought to you but in this case that didn’t happen. The owners of this franchise need to either staff better or hire robots.

DO NOT EAT HERE! DO NOT EAT HERE! DO NOT EAT HERE! If I could give it 0 stars I would. Disrespectful staff! Horrible customer service. I waited about half an hour to get seated and when I got seated I waited forever to get my order taken. When they finally came to take my order they told me to get up from our seats because 2 members of our party were in the parking lot and they didn’t want to take our order unless we were all here. They told us to get up from our seats wait for those 2 people to come back and then wait to get seated again. I have never been this discriminated in my life. The crazy part was they weren’t even busy! They had plenty of empty tables. DO NOT EAT HERE!

I recently visited Gen Korean BBQ in Sacramento with my children after a long day, and despite how incredibly busy the restaurant was, our experience was outstanding from start to finish.

As soon as we were seated, our server Jesus greeted us promptly with a warm smile and had our drinks on the table within a minute, no exaggeration. We placed our order, and to my surprise, the food came out very quickly considering how packed the restaurant was.

Jesus provided excellent recommendations, every single cut of meat he suggested was absolutely delicious and practically melted in our mouths. He was attentive throughout the entire meal, frequently checking in, changing out our grill plates so we could cook comfortably without excessive smoke, and making sure everything was perfect.

It’s rare to find service this exceptional, especially during such a busy time. Jesus was friendly, professional, fast, and reliable. He’s also bilingual, which made communication effortless. Because of his outstanding service, I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend requesting Jesus as your server. He truly elevated our dining experience.

Simply put, I was amazed 10/10 experience.

Food was good, like really good but that’s where the good ends. Everything they did was obviously intentional and very frustrating. They drop off starchy foods right away and then wait forever to bring any meats. The cooking equipment wasnt hot enough to cook anything in a reasonable amount of time. It shouldn’t take 30 plus minutes to cook a piece of pork belly. The temp was set to hottest as well. They intentionally “forget” to bring you all of the items you ordered and then play dumb, which happened multiple times for certain items. Service is not personable until you ask for the check. It was clockwork, once we asked for our check the server started asking about where we were from, what brought us into town, etc. I get that the business doesn’t want a lot of wasted food but I didn’t want to have to sit there for 2 hours. I have been to their location in Hawaii and had a much better experience. Based on my experience at this location I’m going to think twice before I visit another location again. Food was really good once we got it though.
