I don’t tend to post negative reviews but the overall experience was quite underwhelming for the price of the food.
I found the food to be extremely dry and flavorless, for tonkatsu. Our server did not attend to us at all excluding bringing out our food that he kept mixing up our orders upon delivery although we corrected him a few times.
Sometimes restaurants may have off nights but I just would like to bring this to the attention of potential customers and restaurant staff.

We had not been here for years and recently read an article giving it very high marks, so we decided to try it yesterday and were not impressed with the food or prices. Sorry to say it, but Sac has too many established and new Japanese restaurants that we like better for food & prices.
The service was very good, but the kitchen is very slow in getting the food out. The place has a following and does get full, except that we came early before the crowd.
Overall, one of those where you just have to try out for yourself .

Great meal! Chicken katsu was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside! Good portion size. Service was excellent! Very friendly and attentive staff!
Parking: Small parking lot available to early diners. Fills up fast. Street parking is limited.

Pros: Service was good, food came fast. Ambiance was cozy / intimate.
Cons: sashimi wasn’t fresh, chicken yakatori was way too dry, parking is tough, expensive for the poor quality of fish

First visit for take-out since they recently reopened after more than a year closed due to a fire. Definitely worth the wait. Food is as good as it was before the closure. Service is fast and efficient. My order of teriyaki chicken and sesame chicken was expertly prepared and was 100%. Accurate. Portions were just as generous as before. I am so grateful this establishment is back open so I can resume getting the best Japanese cuisine in town. My family has been eating here for over 20 years.
Parking: When busy parking can be hard to find.

Food is great! But Will not be able to eat as often as I want to because the prices have considerably as the average of eight dollars to your dish prices online are From a year and a half ago.(salmon piece very small. Cucumber salad did not come with tiny shrimp any more but prices way up)

Server never checked on us. Only time our water was refilled was when I caught a server.

As loyal Hana Tsubaki customers, we were delighted to see the restaurant reopened. Almost everything met their usual superb quality, but I was rather disappointed to discover that their beef teriyaki is no longer a nice steak. It used to be my favorite order.

The Katsu don was very good, but everything else was just okay.
The sushi was not the best quality. Rice was poor. I wouldn't choose this place for its sushi, but I would try their ramen or rice plates. Also a bit expensive for the quality we received.

My favorite Japanese restaurant - I started coming here in 1979 when I attended CSUS, and I come back whenever I visit my hometown. My favorites were chicken karaage, tempura veggies, and maguro. It's fancied up a bit since I first ate there, but the food is the same, always fresh and delicious. Service is no-nonsense but friendly. It's a Sacramento icon and I sincerely hope they re-open soon.
