I told the proprietor that I had never been there before and asked him how the build-your-own choice, which costs about $16.00, works.
After walking me through choosing a base, a sauce and veggies, he informed me that the build-your-own option included one protein. He up-charged me $4 for selecting a vegetarian option, the veggie sausage, without once mentioning that this would bring the cost of the Mac n Cheese to nearly $20 and was not actually included.
He had an open opportunity to mention the up-charge, since it was not busy, there were no people waiting behind me and I had asked him how it works and he had no difficulty explaining everything else.
I never would have chosen the protein, had he not said it was included, because it blew my budget, he only included 1/4 of the veggie sausage sliced tissue paper-thin and it tasted terrible.
I felt so cheated and bamboozled by the owner, that I will never go back to this establishment and try it for a second time. I work for a large company near this location that employs over a thousand people and have told many people of this bait and switch pricing and to not support this location going forward.
For the inflated prices, the portions are not at all generous. Even the no-thrills basic Mac n Cheese costs around $11.00 and did not taste any better than a side from El Pollo Loco for half that price and the same size portion.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience.

What a yummy menu. If you love mac and cheese, this is the place to go. They have sandwiches and other items as well, along with a few vegan and keto options. They were great about substitutions and personalizing food items within reason. There is a public parking lot next door, which is convenient. It's located in a beautiful area with shops and other cafes nearby if you want to walk off the carbs.

First time customer. Was pretty stoked to try their Lobster & White Truffle Grilled Cheese. Grilled cheese was subpar, but the tomato bisque dip was yummy. They also gave me 8 pieces of tater tots which tasted like it had definitely been sitting out for hours. For $30 in this economy? Diabolical. Wouldn't try this again.

Are these reviews real? The food was terrible, it’s literally not even a real cheese sauce. Like gas station cheese. Every element was clearly very low quality. Weird rubbery meal @ $60 for two. There is just no way this is going to fly in our city. Start by making real cheese sauce. I am a professional chef that owns a local establishment, I’m not pulling this information out of nowhere. we wanted to give this a chance, it’s a cute concept that could be executed well.

You can't go wrong with macaroni and cheese. I got the cheeseburger. It's the ingredients of a cheeseburger on a delicious flatbread. I didn't get a side because they were out of cheese bites. If I'm given the opportunity to eat there again, I would.
I would like to share my extremely negative experience with the Heart Mac & Cheese store in Sacramento. During my last attempt to pick up an order, the staff member, who identified himself as the owner, behaved extremely aggressively and disrespectfully. He refused to hand over my order without any reason, canceled it, threatened to call the police, and even physically pushed me out of the store. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable and humiliating. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this store.
